Senior Family Services Advocate

Job summary

The State of Delaware seeks Family Service Specialist candidates to assess and coordinate case management for children, youth, adults, and families facing abuse, neglect, or crisis. You will conduct assessments, plan and facilitate services, and advocate for safety and welfare, including foster care and permanency planning.

Positions require independent work in office and community settings, including home visits statewide, with after-hours responses for urgent child safety needs.

Qualifications

• Senior level requires two years+ of health/human service experience and associated education options.
• Master level requires three years+ of health/human service experience and related degrees.

Responsibilities

• Provides services to advocate for health, safety and welfare of clients and families and assists them in obtaining needed services.
• Interviews clients and family members and/or professionals to gather personal, social and background information; works with client/family to describe problems and resources.
• Determines eligibility for various social service programs offered by the agency or community.
• In collaboration with client and family, develops and implements service/treatment plans with goals and methods.
• Conducts individual and family counseling sessions to aid social development and adjustment.
• Assesses progress toward goals and makes recommendations on plans including discharge, aftercare, or emergency placement.
• Prepares social histories, progress reports, court reports, and maintains client records.
• Enforces court orders and attends hearings to present progress reports.
• May intervene in crisis situations and coordinate with law enforcement; may isolate/ restrain clients if needed.
• May be on-call for emergency duties.

Education

Two years' experience in professional health or human service work.

Associate's degree AND one year of experience in professional health or human service work.

Bachelor's degree or higher.

Three years' experience in professional health or human service work.

Associate's degree AND two years' experience in professional health or human service work.
