Job summary

IonQ in Bothell, WA is seeking a Sr. Facilities Technician II for the swing shift. You will be part of a cross-functional team responsible for maintaining lab spaces and building systems, coordinating with vendors, and ensuring safety and compliance.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 2 year technical degree or certification; 3+ years hands-on experience in a fast-paced, high-tech electronics/ optics lab, data center, or manufacturing environment.
  • Experience with mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems as well as facility maintenance.
  • Experience with Computerized Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS).
  • Ability to work independently and in a team; cross-functional collaboration.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as a key liaison between lab teams and facilities; respond to requests for building and project-related issues, maintaining a customer-service mindset.
  • Perform general maintenance and upkeep of lab spaces, including equipment moves and installations.
  • Assist with regular inspections and maintenance tasks on HVAC, plumbing, mechanical, electrical, lighting, and other building systems; coordinate with external vendors as needed.
  • Follow preventative maintenance schedules for mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems.
  • Operate and monitor building systems (HVAC, plumbing, electrical) to ensure proper function.
  • Maintain records for inspections, repairs, and audits; ensure safety regulations and company policies are followed.
  • Coordinate with stakeholders for scheduled service interruptions and emergencies; create and follow SOPs for facilities emergencies.

The Role

We are looking for a Sr. Facilities Technician II in Bothell, WA for the swing shift (evenings). As a Sr. Facilities Technician II, you’ll be part of a cross‑functional team whose mission is to lead IonQ on its journey to build the world’s best quantum computers to solve the world’s most complex problems.

Responsibilities
  • Be a key point of contact between lab teams and facilities for the building. Respond to requests for building and project related issues. Maintain a customer service-oriented relationship with teams throughout the facility..
  • Perform general maintenance and upkeep of lab spaces including equipment moves and installations
  • Assist with regular inspections and maintenance tasks on HVAC, plumbing, mechanical, electrical, lighting, and other building systems. Make repairs as needed and coordinate with external vendors as needed.
  • Follow preventative maintenance schedules for mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems.
  • Operate and monitor building systems, including HVAC, plumbing, and electrical systems to ensure proper function .
  • Ensure compliance with safety regulations, codes, and company policies. Maintain records for inspections, repairs, and audits.
  • Perform general upkeep tasks such as cosmetic work, painting, floor repairs to maintain a clean and safe environment.
  • Perform Environmental, Health, and Safety (EHS) tasks to include HAZMAT removal through coordination with contractors.
  • Assist with physical security projects and procedures
  • Coordinate and assist with equipment moves
  • Monitor and maintain inventory. Work with facilities coordinators to maintain par levels for lab supplies. Monitor calibration program and send equipment for calibration when necessary.
  • Work with external vendors or contractors for specialized projects, repairs, or maintenance when needed.
  • Coordinate with stakeholders for scheduled and service interruptions.
  • Create, address, and/or follow protocols and SOPs for facilities emergencies such as power outages, water leaks, broken equipment to minimize disruption to business operations. On-call after hours and weekends for response to facility emergencies.
  • Other assigned duties as required in support of business needs.
Requirements
  • Minimum 2 year technical degree or certification and 3+ years of hands‑on experience in a fast‑paced, high‑tech electronics / optics laboratory / data center / manufacturing environment.
  • Experience with mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems as well as facility maintenance.
  • Experience with Computerized Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS).
  • Ability to work independently and in a team setting, as well as cross functionally with various organizations.
  • Detail oriented individual with fine motor skills.
  • Experience working with hand tools and performing small facilities, manufacturing, and lab repairs.
  • Ability to read, understand, and follow blueprints, technical specifications and operating procedures.
  • Ability to perform moderate strenuous physical and repetitious work to include, but not limited to: bending, stooping, kneeling, carrying tools, lifting up to 50 pounds, and working overhead.
  • Experience with data collection and analysis.
  • Excellent communication skills, verbal and written.
  • Strong computer skills with proficiency in Google Sheets and MS Office.
  • Excitement to learn and complement tasks contributing to multiple teams.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience in customer service, responding to tickets, and working on a team
  • Demonstrated experience working on mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems.
  • Demonstrated experience working for a fast pace leading edge tech company.
  • Experience working in R&D laboratory spaces (optics, electronics, etc.)
  • Self starter with a great work ethic.

The total compensation package includes base, bonus, equity, and a range of benefit options found on our career site.

Wage Transparency: $71,194 — $94,154 USD

If this role has a commission structure, the compensation range below just reflects the base compensation range.

Compensation will vary based on individual factors such as education, qualifications, and experience of the final candidate(s), specific office location, and calibration against relevant market data and internal team equity. Posted base salary figures are subject to change as new market data becomes available.
