Responsibilities

• Lead mechanical design projects from conceptual design through construction completion.
• Prepare equipment specifications, data sheets, RFQs, bid summaries, and purchase recommendations.
• Review vendor drawings and coordinate with suppliers, clients, engineers, detailers, and designers.
• Manage project scheduling, budgeting, staffing, and construction planning.
• Oversee QA/QC processes and ensure compliance with safety policies.
• Mentor less-experienced engineers and provide technical leadership.

Senior Mechanical Engineer – Aviation & Federal

Job: Mechanical Engineering

Schedule: Full-time

Travel: Approximately 20%

Description

The Senior Mechanical Engineer will lead mechanical design project teams to create high-quality designs for new projects, alterations, and redevelopments across a variety of facilities. Projects will primarily support federal and commercial clients and may include aviation, municipal, power, process, corporate, healthcare, pipeline, institutional, industrial, manufacturing, and military facilities.

The Senior Mechanical Engineer will lead the project technical team throughout the design and construction process, adapting mechanical plans to meet budget constraints, design requirements, and client needs. This individual will coordinate and execute project work across multiple offices and maintain direct communication with project leadership and clients.

Responsibilities

• Lead mechanical design projects from conceptual design through construction completion.
• Prepare mechanical equipment specifications, packaged equipment specifications and data sheets, RFQs, technical bid summaries, and purchase recommendations.
• Review mechanical equipment vendor drawings and coordinate technical information with suppliers, clients, engineers, detailers, and designers.
• Participate in project scheduling, scope development, budgeting, staffing, and construction planning.
• Manage and coordinate change orders.
• Apply advanced knowledge of mechanical engineering concepts, practices, codes, and procedures.
• Develop solutions for complex projects and non-standard design challenges.
• Perform quality reviews of engineering drawings, calculations, and specifications.
• Oversee construction administration and coordinate with field personnel to resolve mechanical installation and design issues.
• Conduct field inspections, measurements, calculations, installation reviews, and system testing.
• Prepare and present technical reports for clients and industry publications.
• Develop and maintain strong relationships with clients, customers, and contractors.
• Identify opportunities for new business and participate in sales and marketing efforts.
• Assist with identifying and pursuing key business opportunities.
• Lead development of cost proposals and qualification statements.
• Prepare and present project budgets and cost estimates.
• Monitor and report project performance.
• Provide technical leadership, guidance, and instruction to the mechanical engineering practice.
• Mentor and develop less-experienced engineers.
• Ensure adherence to QA/QC processes.
• Coordinate effectively with other engineering disciplines.
• Ensure compliance with company and project-site safety policies.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline from an ABET-accredited program and at least 7 years of mechanical engineering experience; or
• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering Technology or a related Engineering Technology discipline from an ABET-accredited program, successful completion of the FE exam, and at least 7 years of mechanical engineering experience; or
• Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering and at least 6 years of mechanical engineering experience.
• Federal project experience preferred.
• Advanced knowledge of standard engineering techniques and procedures.
• Strong knowledge of mechanical equipment design codes and standards, including ASME, ANSI, API, PIP, and NACE.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Experience leading mechanical discipline design for large projects and delegating work to team members.
• Ability to lead project execution and resolve technical issues in a collaborative environment.
• Strong critical-thinking and quantitative problem-solving abilities.
• Excellent attention to detail, organization, facilitation, collaboration, and team-building skills.
• Ability to perform quality reviews of detailed engineering documents and specifications.
• Ability and willingness to travel.
• Professional Engineer (PE) license preferred.
