Job summary

Pepperdine University’s Weisman Museum of Art seeks a Museum Curator to provide creative vision for permanent and traveling exhibitions. You will collaborate with leadership to prepare, install, and promote collections while engaging donors and audiences.

The role focuses on curation, grant management, installation oversight, and strategic collection planning within a Christian university context.

Qualifications

• MA in museum studies, art history, or related field.
• One or more years of demonstrated excellence in conceiving and organizing successful exhibitions for wide audiences.
• Expertise in Modern/Contemporary, European, or Asian art, and knowledge of the museum’s collecting areas.
• Knowledge of museum collection care, conservation, and research tools/methods.
• Sound judgment and strong verbal/written communication.
• Experience with Google Workspace, Zoom, and Adobe Acrobat.

Responsibilities

• Exhibition Curation: Serve as the curator for exhibitions of the permanent collection, temporary exhibitions, and external exhibitions.
• Grant Management: Oversee tasks for grant-funded projects, including Passages project funded by Lilly Endowment.
• Exhibit Installation & Management: Manage all aspects of exhibit installation in collaboration with the Museum Director and artists, institutions, and collectors.
• Promotion: Collaborate with university marketing to prepare and distribute promotional materials and represent the museum publicly.
• Patron Engagement: Support donor cultivation through tours, research, and outreach to patrons.
• Collection & Strategy: Develop and implement collection strategies aligned with the university’s mission, vision, and values.
• Perform other duties as assigned; uphold university mission.
