Job summary

Xcel Energy is seeking an Executive Protection Lead to coordinate, schedule, and manage protection for the CEO and senior executives. You will provide travel briefings, on-site and off-site security, and lead a security team for events and dignitary visits.

The role operates primarily during standard business hours with potential for evening work to support events, and follows a hybrid model with on-site expectations three days per week.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice, Security, Business, Public Administration or related field.
  • At least seven years in a public safety role (corporate security, law enforcement, military, etc.).
  • At least seven years performing Executive Protection duties.
  • Knowledge of Federal and State statutes pertaining to use of force.
  • Expert knowledge of Executive Protection programs and advance work.
  • Violence in the Workplace prevention knowledge is desired.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Ability to integrate security measures within budget while ensuring smooth movement of protectees.
  • Able to complete armed security training and maintain certification.
  • Able to travel with limited or no advance notice.

Responsibilities

  • Provide protective services for the CEO and other executives; assess threats and coordinate responses with Security or Law Enforcement.
  • Assist with planning and execution of corporate events and VIP visits for a safe environment.
  • Conduct security awareness programs for executive staff and assist with advance trip duties and security provisions.
  • Supervise and conduct risk assessments of security for the CEO and office/home venues.
  • Develop relationships to facilitate safe movement of the protectee during travel and public appearances.
  • Manage special programs or projects as directed by the CEO or executives.

Position Summary

Coordinate, schedule, lead, manage and ensure effective implementation of the Executive Protection program. Provides protective services for the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) and other executives of the organization as directed. Provide travel briefings and coordinate all on and off-site security needs. Act as team leader to other Executive Protection staff (employee and vendor) as required.

This position primarily operates during standard business hours, Monday through Friday. However, occasional evening work may be required to support events and business needs.

Essential Responsibilities
  • Provide protective services for the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) and other executives of the organization. Evaluate internal and external threats made to the CEO and coordinate response with Security or Law Enforcement resources. Identify groups, individuals, and merging technologies that may pose a threat to executives.
  • Assists with on and off-site planning, coordination and execution of plans. Assist with the planning and execution of corporate events, and visits by dignitaries and VIP guests of the corporation to ensure a safe environment. Assists in providing security-related issues associated with corporate aircraft facility.
  • Address and act as primary contact for conducting security awareness programs to Company Executive Staff, their assistants and reception staff. Perform advance trip duties, and coordinating the necessary security provisions with local law enforcement agencies and other security groups.
  • Supervise, direct and conduct risk assessments associated with the safety and security of the CEO (and other executives, as required) including physical security of the office, home and meeting venues.
  • Develop and maintain effective relationships with individuals and organizations that can expedite the movement and safety of the CEO (and other executives) while traveling or making public appearances.
  • Manage special programs or projects as assigned by CEO or other executive staff.
Minimum Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice, Security, Business, Public Administration or a related field; or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
  • At least seven years performing in a public safety role (i.e. corporate security, law enforcement, military, fire, etc.)
  • At least seven years performing Executive Protection duties or an equivalent combination of education, training, and work experience providing equivalent knowledge.
  • Must have experience with and knowledge of Federal and State statutes which pertain to use of force situations.
  • Demonstrated, expert knowledge of Executive Protection programs to include protection of principal, site security, security surveys, security system design and all associated advance work.
  • Experience and training in Violence in the Workplace prevention is desired as is ability to conduct threat investigations.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Ability to interface with and/or collaborate with others to develop security solutions that fit within the business framework and budget, while facilitating smooth movement of protectee.
  • Ability to complete armed security training and maintain certification.
  • Ability to work flexible hours to meet situational demands.
  • Subject to 24-hour on call status and response.
  • Valid driver’s license.
  • Ability to travel with limited or no advanced notice.
Preferred Requirements
  • Must maintain required physical fitness standards and successfully complete all firearms qualification, certification, and requalification requirements necessary to perform the essential functions of the position.
  • Demonstrates sound judgment and business acumen by understanding executive priorities, corporate culture, operational risk, reputational considerations, and strategic business objectives. Effectively integrates security measures into executive activities while preserving productivity, discretion, and the executive experience.

Non-Bargaining

The anticipated starting base pay for this position is: $111,000.00 to $124,000.00 per year
