Job summary

MasTec Renewables seeks a Senior Estimator (manager level) to lead large conceptual EPC bids in the solar sector. This onsite role can be located in Fargo, ND, Indianapolis, IN, Clinton, IN, or Phoenix, AZ. You will drive bid strategy, risk management, and proposal quality for major projects.

You will mentor junior estimators, coordinate across procurement, design, and field teams, and develop winning strategies and alternate contracting approaches to maximize value.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of 7 years of construction estimating experience.
  • Experience with EPC, DB and JV contracts and negotiations.
  • Experience leading bids on large solar renewable energy projects.

Responsibilities

  • Perform complete conceptual estimates for large, complex EPC projects from bid package to final review.
  • Manage the bid schedule to ensure accurate and timely preparation of the estimate.
  • Lead bid teams and mentor Estimator I & II personnel.
  • Demonstrate advanced knowledge of estimating and coordination with field teams.

Overview

This position will generally lead large conceptual EPC bids where experience plays a vital role in developing a good estimate. Senior Estimators report to the Director of Estimating. This position will be assigned to large projects with responsibility for all aspects of RFP requirements, winning proposal strategies, alternate contracting strategies and risk management.

Location & Travel Details: This is an onsite position that can be located in one of our four office locations: Fargo, ND, Indianapolis, IN, Clinton, IN, or Phoenix, AZ

Responsibilities
  • Perform complete conceptual estimates for large, complex EPC projects from receipt of bid package through final bid review, including: site visits, scope determination, Material Takeoff, input data into computerized estimating systems, questions to Owner/Engineer and qualifications
  • Manage the available bid time to insure accurate and timely preparation of a complete estimate
  • Function as a team player; create an environment where other groups and individuals want to work with you
  • Utilize ability and experience to conceptualize portions of estimate
  • Organize and detail the estimate so that manhours can be properly applied, easily understood for review purposes, and efficiently turned over to the field personnel
  • Demonstrate an advanced knowledge of all aspects of Construction Estimating and consistently manage bid teams for large, complex projects
  • Train and mentor Estimator I and Estimator IIs
  • Mastery of technical estimating responsibilities including lead responsibilities such as: site visits and jobsite exposure, understanding RFQ requirements, questions to owner/engineer, turnover of bid estimate to the field, etc.
  • Mastery knowledge of discipline specific responsibilities including lead responsibilities such as: material take offs, comprehension of drawings and specifications, manhour analysis, understanding of material pricing, subcontracts, etc.
  • May be assigned as the Lead Estimator on estimates
  • Other duties as assigned
Qualifications
Education and Work Experience Requirements
  • High school diploma plus related training or education equivalent to a Bachelor's degree
  • Minimum of 7 years of construction estimating experience Knowledge of construction techniques, estimating and construction management
  • Knowledge of various contract types including EPC, DB and JV Experience in contract negotiations
  • Experience in working with a variety of vendors and clients
  • Experience in leading bids on a regular basis
  • Estimating experience within large-scale Solar Renewable Energy projects is highly desired

  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations
  • Interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram or schedule form
  • Knowledge of construction techniques, estimating and construction management
  • Knowledge of various contract types including Engineer, Procure, and Construct, Design Build, and Joint Venture
