Job summary

H.T. Prof Executive Search is seeking a hands-on Senior Estimator for heavy civil work in Southern California, focusing on self-performing contracting. The role emphasizes crew composition, production rates, risk analysis and bid strategy with operations and leadership.

Ideal candidates have 10+ years in heavy civil estimating, with strong experience in utilities, earthwork, asphalt, concrete, and public works bidding. Occasional site visits and regional travel may be required.

Qualifications

• 10+ years of heavy civil construction estimating experience.
• Strong background estimating for a self-performing heavy civil contractor.
• Experience across utilities, earthwork, grading, asphalt, and concrete.
• Strong knowledge of the Southern California heavy civil market.
• Experience bidding public works, municipal, transportation, railroad, or utility-owner projects.

Responsibilities

• Lead preparation of detailed estimates and competitive bids for heavy civil infrastructure projects.
• Review plans, specs, geotechnical reports, contracts and bid documents to determine scope.
• Perform and review quantity takeoffs for self-performed and subcontracted scopes.
• Develop labor, equipment, material, subcontractor and indirect costs.
• Build crew-based production estimates based on means and methods.
• Develop production rates, crew compositions, equipment requirements, and unit costs.
• Solicit, review, level, and negotiate subcontractor and supplier proposals.
• Coordinate with Project Managers and Superintendents to validate approach and schedules.
