Job summary

Fred Smith Company in North Carolina is seeking a Senior Estimator to join our Eastern Division. You will deliver competitive cost estimates on new bids and monitor progress of existing bids to ensure timely completion.

The ideal candidate has 10–15 years of civil estimating experience, strong leadership, and proficiency with HCSS HeavyBid and Agtek; a B.S. in Civil Engineering or Construction Management is preferred.

Qualifications

• Minimum 10–15 years of prior civil estimating experience.
• Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management or related field preferred.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office and estimating software.
• Proficiency with HCSS HeavyBid or equivalent program for civil estimating; Agtek takeoff experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Conduct initial analysis of drawings and specifications to determine scope of work.
• Develop full-scope estimates based on Bid-Build, Design-Build or CM/GC documents.
• Critically analyze bid documents and communicate risks and opportunities to management.
• Organize the bid team and provide leadership on means, methods, schedule and strategy.
• Provide detailed quantity take-off of specific trades when required.

Fred Smith Company is a leading heavy civil construction company in North Carolina and is currently searching for a Senior Estimator to be a part of our talented Eastern Division. The Senior Estimator will report to the VP of our Eastern Division. This position is responsible for delivering competitive cost estimates on new bids and reviewing the progress of existing bids to ensure their completion. The successful Sr. Estimator candidate will: Have broad experience and a thorough understanding of heavy civil construction estimatingWill be a self-starterWill be capable of developing major estimates with little supervisionWill be able to meet critical deadlines and lead/mentor others in a positive team environment.

Duties and Responsibilities

• Conduct initial analysis of drawings and specifications to ensure required documentation is present and determine scope of work
• Develop full-scope estimates based on Bid-Build, Design-Build or CM/GC construction documents
• Critically analyze bid documents and understand risk and opportunities and articulate those to management
• Organize the bid team, providing leadership and direction with regards to means and methods, schedule and strategy
• Provide detailed quantity take off of specific trades when required

Requirements

• Minimum of 10 to 15 years of prior civil estimating experience
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office
• Proficiency with HCSS HeavyBid estimating software or equivalent program for Civil Estimating
• Proficiency with Agtek takeoff software preferred
• Previous experience working in the field is a strong plus
• Bachelors degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management or a related field preferred
