Job summary

Teklysium Inc. in Chicago, IL, seeks a Senior Federal Estimator to lead the estimating department and manage bids for government construction projects ranging from $3M to $50M. You will prepare cost estimates, budgets, and bid proposals.

You will review drawings, perform quantity take-offs, solicit subcontractor pricing, identify risks, mentor estimators, and coordinate with project teams to finalize estimates and proposals, including attending pre-bid site visits.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree + 10 years estimating experience or equivalent
• 5–10+ years federal government construction estimating experience
• Experience with USACE, NAVFAC, DOD, DHS, VA, or GSA projects preferred
• Proficiency in SAM, MS Office, Google Suite, Adobe Pro, and estimating software
• Must be legally authorized to work in the U.S. and pass a background check for access to U.S. military installations

Job description

Responsible for leading the estimating department and managing bids for federal construction projects ranging from $3M–$50M. The role includes preparing accurate cost estimates, securing subcontractor pricing, and mentoring other estimators.

Key Responsibilities:

Lead estimating and bidding for federal construction projects.

Prepare cost estimates, budgets, and bid proposals.

Review construction drawings, specifications, and scope of work.

Perform quantity take-offs and evaluate subcontractor pricing.

Solicit and negotiate competitive subcontractor proposals.

Identify project risks, costs, and potential budget issues.

Requirements:

Bachelor's degree and 10 years of construction estimating experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience.

5–10+ years of experience estimating Federal Government construction projects.

Experience with USACE, NAVFAC, DOD, DHS, VA, or GSA projects preferred.

Strong knowledge of construction methods, materials, and processes.

Experience with design-build and design-bid-build projects.

Proficiency in SAM, Microsoft Office, Google Suite, Adobe Pro, and estimating software.

Strong analytical, communication, negotiation, and organizational skills.

Healthcare construction estimating experience is a plus.

Must be legally authorized to work in the U.S.

Must pass a background check for access to U.S. military installations.
