Job summary

Gilbane Building Company seeks a Senior Estimator for its Federal division in Florida. The role involves leading a team of estimators, pricing multiple projects, and coordinating with Preconstruction.

The candidate should have extensive estimating experience in federal projects and strong leadership skills during bid processes. You will have opportunities for training through Gilbane University and participate in multi-project bid coordination, with a focus on value engineering and cost

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering or construction management or equivalent
  • 7-10+ years relevant experience in estimation
  • Experience in Federal construction programs/markets desired but not required
  • Lump Sum Bidding experience

Responsibilities

  • Read plans and specifications and understand RFP requirements for Civil, Structural, Architectural and related sections
  • Analyze, quantify, and provide cost estimates for the scope of work including General Requirements
  • Develop labor crews, productivity, and input for project schedule
  • Advise designers on solutions with lowest initial cost in design-build projects
  • Write effective RFIs and create bid packages
  • Identify and engage with subcontractors during bidding
  • Collect, analyze, and compare bids from subs and suppliers
  • Develop risk register values and track price escalations

As a Senior Estimator, you will supervise a team of Estimators in an effort to price and bid multiple projects. You will work under an experienced professional that will provide you with opportunity to learn the department’s standard operating procedures and build strong relationships with the Preconstruction team. You will have a heavy hand in the coordination and supervision of other Estimators and will price/bid projects that shape your community. Responsibilities
  • Read plans and specifications and understand the requirements of the RFP focusing on the Civil, Structural, and Architectural, and other related specification sections.
  • Analyze, quantify, and provides cost estimates for the / scope of work. Inclusive of Gilbane’s General Requirements.
  • Develops accurate labor crews, crew productivity and provides input for project schedule.
  • Advise designers, in design-build projects, on solution with the lowest initial cost to meet the RFP.
  • Write effective RFI’s.
  • Creates and coordinates comprehensive bid packages.
  • Identify and engage with C/S/A subcontractors throughout the bidding process.
  • Create and distribute the C/S/A bid scope of work checklist.
  • Collect, analyze, and compare competitive subcontract and supplier bids.
  • Develops and recommends appropriate risk register values for this scope of work.
  • Tracks and reports on current material and labor prices, including escalation.
  • Tracks and reports on current material and equipment to identify long-lead items.

Experience/Education
  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering or construction management field and/or office experience equivalency.
  • 7-10+ years relevant experience
  • Experience in Federal construction programs and markets is desired but not required.
  • Lump Sum Bidding.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

Extensive knowledge of Winest, On‐Screen Take‐off, and similar software for take‑offs and estimate pricing for C/S/A systems construction.

Supportive computer skills for varied formats such as basic Windows applications plus pdf’s, TEAMS, Zoom, etc.

Ability to present estimating deliverables to management and explain advantages in utilizing one contractor over another, scope gaps, cost swings, etc.

Ability to conceptually estimate projects with limited information.

Ability to estimate multiple facility types such as hospitals, hangars, office structures, specialized mission structures, base improvements, renovations, and additions.

Ability to maintain healthy working relationships with industry partners (Owners, designers, subcontractors, etc.) for the development of estimating deliverables.

Salary to be determined by the education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities of the applicant, internal equity, and alignment with market data.
