Job summary

Blue Signal Search is seeking an experienced estimator in Scranton, PA to own the full estimating cycle for commercial construction projects, from plan review to bid submission and award.

You will develop pricing from material, labor, equipment, and subcontractor inputs, engaging contractors and suppliers to strengthen pricing and move opportunities forward, while managing multiple bids with accuracy and driving profitable outcomes.

Our client is an established specialty construction contractor entering an exciting stage of growth and operational development. They are seeking an experienced estimator who can do more than produce takeoffs. This individual will own opportunities from initial plan review through pricing, proposal, negotiation, and award. With projects ranging from smaller commercial assignments to multimillion-dollar work, this is an opportunity to take meaningful ownership of the bid pipeline, build strong industry relationships, and directly influence profitable growth. For the right senior-level candidate, there is also room for the position to develop into broader estimating leadership.

Focus:

• Own the full estimating cycle from quantity takeoff through final bid submission, follow-up, negotiation, and award.
• Study plans, specifications, addenda, and scope documents to identify quantities, materials, labor, and project requirements.
• Build competitive estimates for commercial projects ranging from smaller assignments to multimillion-dollar opportunities.
• Develop pricing using current material, labor, equipment, and subcontractor inputs while protecting project profitability.
• Engage general contractors, customers, suppliers, and trade partners to clarify scope, strengthen pricing, and move opportunities forward.
• Manage multiple active bids, priorities, deadlines, revisions, and proposal requirements with consistent accuracy.
• Support a clean transition from estimating to project execution by communicating scope, assumptions, exclusions, and pricing strategy.
• Contribute to a growing preconstruction function with the opportunity to influence estimating practices and take on broader leadership over time.

Skill Set:

• Background preparing cost projections for commercial building projects, ideally with direct exposure to flooring scopes.
• Proven ability to read and interpret architectural drawings, construction plans, blueprints, specifications, and related bid documents.
• Hands-on experience completing takeoffs, developing pricing, preparing proposals, and supporting bids through award.
• Experience estimating projects at substantial scale, including work reaching into the multimillion-dollar range.
• Strong communication and negotiation skills with the confidence to build productive relationships with customers, vendors, and project partners.
• Ability to work independently, manage competing deadlines, and maintain accuracy in a fast-moving commercial construction environment.
• Commercial flooring knowledge and experience with flooring estimating platforms are highly valued, but strong estimators from adjacent commercial trades will be considered.
• Comfort learning new estimating and business systems, with prior MeasureSquare experience considered a strong advantage.
