The Weitz Company is seeking a Senior Estimator to support our Florida business unit in West Palm Beach, FL. The role oversees preconstruction cost control, including complete estimates, cost analysis, and historical cost reports across multiple projects of varying complexity.

Ideal candidates bring more than 10 years in construction estimating, proficiency in conceptual estimating, and prior leadership experience to mentor a team and deliver accurate, timely estimates that support project

Responsibilities

• Contact local building trades, subs, suppliers, government offices to verify market conditions and costs
• Utilize conceptual estimating skills to identify items for complete systems even if not on docs
• Understand client needs to manage the process efficiently and ensure timely completion
• Be accountable for estimate accuracy, risk analysis, and historical data maintenance
• Stay current on best practices and economic trends affecting estimation
• Reduce risk by ensuring estimates go through appropriate management review
• Provide excellent customer service on all projects
• Review standards for process improvements and implement changes
• Provide leadership and mentorship to team members

Job description

The Weitz Company is hiring a Senior Estimator to support our Florida business unit in West Palm Beach, FL. The Senior Estimator is responsible for all preconstruction cost control functions for construction projects including complete estimates, cost analysis, comparisons, assisting with feasibility studies, and historical cost reports. This individual is capable of performing cost control functions on multiple projects of varying complexity simultaneously.

What You’ll Do:

• Contact local building trades, subcontractors, suppliers, government offices, etc. to understand and verify local market conditions, trade practices, and costs
• Utilize conceptual estimating skills and identify items required for complete systems, even if not outlined on construction documents
• Understand the clients’ needs to manage the process efficiently, ensure timely completion, understand local logistics/subcontractor and supplier market, and how BIM/LEED/LEAN can be best utilized
• Be accountable for estimate accuracy, risk analysis, consistency of data, and development/maintenance of historical cost data
• Stay current on best practices, economic trends, technological innovations that impact construction estimation
• Reduce the risk to The Weitz Company and the client by ensuring that all project estimates are subjected to the appropriate management review
• Ensure excellent customer service is delivered on all projects
• Review current standards and processes to identify areas for process improvement and implement a plan to make adjustments
• Provide leadership and mentorship to team members

• Experience:
  • 10+ years of experience in construction estimating
