Job summary

Hoffman Construction Company is seeking a Senior Estimator to join the Estimating department. The in-office role will analyze project designs, prepare cost estimates, and drive profitability while supporting the project management group.

You will work closely with the estimating team and partners to develop detailed budgets and schedules. Qualified candidates will have extensive construction estimating experience, proficiency with AutoCAD/Revit/Navisworks, and strong communication.

Qualifications

  • High School diploma or GED required.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Civil, Electrical Eng., Construction Mgmt, Architecture, or equivalent.
  • Education/experience in materials and methods of construction.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare estimates at all design stages.
  • Mentor estimators with less experience.
  • Collaborate with project teams and partners to ensure client success.
  • Develop Preconstruction Status Reports with cost indicators and cash flow projections.
  • Work with subcontractors and vendors to validate budgets.
  • Interpret drawings and quantify materials for construction.
  • On-screen take-off of material quantities.
  • Publish estimate clarifications and summarize quantities.

Job description

POSITION SUMMARY

The Senior Estimator will work within the Estimating department and will report directly to the office Estimating Director. They will work closely with the entire estimating team and the office’s project management group. The Senior Estimator will analyze project design and construction documents to determine the needs of various projects, provide solutions to increase profitability and prepare project cost estimates. This position will be fully in-office.


SALARY RANGE

$145,000 to $160,000


PRINCIPLE RESPONSIBILITIES


  • Prepare estimates at all levels of design completion.

  • Help teach estimators with less experience.

  • Be a proactive team member within the overall project teams, helping our clients and design partners be successful.

  • Develop and prepare a Preconstruction Status Report including narrative, executive cost reports, project cost indicators, cash flow projections, schedule, and logistic plans.

  • Work with subcontractorsand equipment vendors to validate budgets.

  • Interpret construction drawings, technical manuals and quantifying materials required for construction.

  • On screen take-off of material quantities.

  • Write and publish estimate clarifications.

  • Summarize quantities of materials in an orderly fashion.


QUALIFICATIONS, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

EDUCATION


  • High School diploma or GED required.

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering,Civil Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Construction Management, Architecture, or equivalent degree and/or equivalent field work experience required.

  • Education and/or experience background in materials and methods of construction.


EXPERIENCE


  • A minimum of five (10) years’ construction estimating experience preferred.

  • Specific experience in commercial, healthcare, industrial,and/or public use types of projects preferred.

  • LEED Accredited Professional, or the ability to become accredited within eighteen (18) months preferred.


POSITION RELATED SKILLS


  • Proficient inWindows and Microsoft Office 365 (Excel, Word, Outlook, Power Point and Teams),and have a general understanding of working within a computer network.

  • Experience with design software such as AutoCAD, Revit and Navisworks.

  • Training in design and construction document reading, design specifications, survey theory and techniques.

  • Experience in organizing technical data in a neat and accurate method. Familiar with MasterFormat specification system forconstruction.

  • Highly developed visual observation and interpretation skills.

  • Ability to work well and maintain a cooperative attitude through high-pressure situations.

  • Excellent time-management skills and ability to multi-task and prioritize work while frequently interrupted by phone calls and questions on work in progress.

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills with an ability to develop strong interpersonal relationships.

  • Ability to work closely with variety of trade and craft people in a field work situation. Patience and professionalism are essential.

  • Must be a strong team player with the ability to collaborate with various personnel within and across departments and at all levels of leadership.

  • Work schedule must be flexible to allow extended hours or off-shift work to accommodate changing construction schedule and sequences.


ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS


  • Must be able to remain in a stationary position in an office environment more than 50% of the time, with occasional requirements to move about on the job site.

  • Must be able to access work being done on multiple levels.

  • Hands/Arms: Constantly operates a computer and other office productivity machinery, such as a calculator, copy machine, and computer printer.

  • Sight: The worker is required to have close visual acuity to perform an activity such as: preparing and analyzing data and figures; transcribing; viewing a computer terminal; reading printed and digital documents

  • Hearing: Must be able to work in proximity to loud equipment 25% of the time. Must be able to wear hearing protection as necessary. Often required to communicate with customers and coworkers in an office setting and, on the phone/digital meetings.

  • Speech:Abilityto communicate laws, ordinances, plans, regulations, protocols, directives, and standard operating procedures related to project scope. Constantly required to communicate with customers and coworkers in an office setting.

  • Bending/Twisting: minimal.

  • Kneeling/Crouching/Crawling: minimal.
