Job summary

Batten | Shaw, established in 1988, provides full-service construction for complex projects across Middle Tennessee. The company seeks a Senior Estimator to lead estimating efforts, mentor junior staff, and ensure accurate budgets for commercial and healthcare builds.

Responsibilities include bid development, subcontractor prequalification, and managing buyouts. Travel to local/regional job sites is expected; Timberline experience is preferred.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in construction-related field with 7–15+ years estimating experience.
• Experience in commercial and healthcare construction.
• Experience in conceptual estimating.
• Experience in negotiated and hard-bid environments.
• Experience with Timberline or equivalent estimating software.
• Willingness to travel locally and regionally.

Responsibilities

• Lead teams and work independently through estimating process from bid documents to subcontractor buyout.
• Mentor and develop other estimators.
• Review budget and bid documents to understand project requirements and scope.
• Interview and pre-qualify subcontractors; manage database of qualified subs.
• Choose subs for projects, manage DBE goals, and prepare subcontractor bid packages.
• Evaluate subcontractor and supplier proposals against bid requirements.
• Prepare all levels of estimates for budget and bid opportunities.
• Represent Batten & Shaw, Inc. in meetings with owners, architects, engineers, and contractors.
• Complete subcontractor buyout and turnover processes.
• Develop owner and subcontractor contacts.
• Research local code and permit requirements.
• Adhere to estimating policies and procedures.
• Prepare value engineering as needed.

Position Summary:

Work with preconstruction team to win work for the company through the development of competitive and accurate proposals. Develop junior estimators through mentoring and coaching to help them reach their full potential.

Position Responsibilities:

• 
  Ability to lead teams and work independently through estimating process from the receipt of bid documents through subcontractor buyout.

  Mentors and develops other members of the estimating staff.

• Review budget and bid documents to understand project requirements and scope.

  Interviews and pre-qualifies subcontractors. Manages a database of qualified subcontractors capable of worksite completion.

  Chooses appropriate subs for projects, eliminates poorly qualified subs and manages process to necessary DBE goals.

  Prepares subcontractor bid packages

  Prepare all levels of estimates for budget and bid opportunities.

Education and Experience:

• Bachelor’s Degree in Construction Sciences, Mechanical or Civil Engineering or related field and 7-15+ years estimating experience or equivalent combination of technical training and related experience.
• Experience in commercial and healthcare construction.
• Experience in conceptual estimating.
• Experience in both a negotiated and hard-bid environment.
• Experience with Timberline or equivalent estimating software.
• Willingness to travel to local and regional jobsites as needed.
