Job summary

Tank Recruiting represents a well-regarded organization in Southern California seeking an experienced estimator to lead its residential and commercial loss work. The senior, field-heavy role requires mastery of Xactimate and the ability to negotiate with insurance carriers without backup.

You will inspect water and fire losses, develop repair scopes and estimates, and stand behind your figures through reviews until claims are resolved.

Qualifications

• 7+ years in estimating insurance restoration
• Experience with large/complicated claims
• Solid understanding of building trades (mechanical, electrical, plumbing)
• Proven ability to negotiate with insurance adjusters

Responsibilities

Job description

We're recruiting on behalf of a well-regarded organization in Southern California that needs an experienced estimator to lead its technical work on residential and commercial losses.

About the Role

This is a senior, field-heavy position for someone who knows Xactimate inside and out and can handle carrier negotiations without needing backup. You'll inspect water and fire losses, produce the repair scope and estimate, and then stand behind that work through every round of review until the claim is resolved. You'll partner closely with the adjusting team: they manage the client and overall strategy, while you're responsible for making sure the numbers are accurate, complete, and well supported.

What You'll Do

• Inspect damaged properties alongside adjusters and document the full extent of the loss, including damage that's often overlooked
• Take moisture readings and map affected areas when needed
• Work with contractors, vendors, manufacturers, and outside experts to confirm pricing and repair methods
• Build thorough Xactimate estimates quickly after each inspection
• Compare carrier estimates against your own and prepare written analyses of the differences
• Negotiate disputed items directly with insurance company adjusters
• Review sub-bids and expert reports for accuracy
• Check the estimating work of other team members and help set quality standards
• Create written procedures and reference materials for the estimating department
• Help collect and organize past project data to support future estimates
• Train and coach less experienced estimators

What You Bring

• At least 7 years estimating insurance restoration work, with strong water and fire experience
• A track record on large or complicated claims
• Solid understanding of the building trades, including mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems
• Comfort negotiating with carrier representatives on your own
• Strong skills in Microsoft Office; Adobe experience is a plus
• Excellent organization and time management
• Degree in construction management, business, or similar, or comparable experience
• Field construction experience is a strong plus
• Valid driver's license, good driving record, and your own reliable vehicle

Work Setup

• Based in the LA/Orange County area.
• Expect to spend most of the week in the field, with the remaining time in the office.
• Base salary of $110K-$135K, plus annual bonus potential.

Physical Demands

• Must be able to inspect properties in all weather conditions, which includes climbing stairs, kneeling, crawling, working on uneven surfaces, and carrying up to 50 lbs of equipment.
• Regular driving and extended computer work are also part of the job.
