The Senior Estimator is responsible for developing, coordinating, and validating complete project cost estimates for large-scale Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) projects likely valued in excess of $500 million. This role will support the pursuit and execution of utility-scale energy infrastructure projects, including steam generation facilities, advanced boiler technologies, combined cycle power plants, and other thermal energy generation systems. The successful candidate will work closely with engineering, supply chain, construction, project management, and commercial teams to develop accurate and competitive cost estimates that support project development, proposal activities, investment decisions, and project execution. This position requires a highly experienced estimator capable of understanding complex technical scopes, evaluating project risks, challenging assumptions, and building credible estimates for multi‑discipline EPC projects.
Responsibilities
- Prepare detailed estimates covering engineering, procurement, construction, commissioning, startup, indirect costs, escalation, contingency, and risk allowances. while working in InEight or other tools.
- Work from drawings, specifications, supplier quotations, engineering standards, estimating data/programs/databases, previous similar executed projects and proposals, and other information to develop estimates.
- Establish estimate basis, assumptions, exclusions, allowances, and qualifications.
- Lead estimate reviews and challenge sessions with engineering, construction, procurement, and executive leadership.
- Review and interpret project specifications, process flow diagrams, drawings, equipment lists, and engineering deliverables.
- Evaluate project scope completeness and identify gaps, opportunities, and risks.
- Perform quantity-based estimating and benchmark validation.
- Develop labor, equipment, and productivity assumptions for major construction activities.
- Monitor escalation trends, labor markets, commodity pricing, and construction market conditions.
- Support Proposal team with details, quantities/weights and specifics of scope and cost estimates.
- Maintain estimator data as required, including in databases or software such as InEight.
- Develop as-sold cost tabs in support of the project team.
- Complete change control estimates to capture financial adjustments to the project.
- Perform all other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Construction Management, or related technical discipline
- 10+ years experience in estimating, project controls, EPC project development, construction, or related technical fields with at least 5 years estimating EPC projects exceeding $500M. Experience with Estimating EPC projects is required.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to read drawings. AutoCAD experience preferred.
- Strong understanding of EPC execution strategies and construction methodologies
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite
- Experience with InEight or similar PMIS software is preferred.
- Experience in the power industry with knowledge of power plants is essential
