Job summary

Orion Placement in Rockville, MD is seeking a lead estimator to drive bidding strategy for large, complex commercial projects. You will own major bid processes, guide risk assessment, value engineering, and pricing strategy while coordinating across estimating, preconstruction, and senior leadership.

The role requires 7+ years in commercial estimating, plus 2+ years of supervising estimators. You will mentor junior staff, build client and trade partner relationships, and help shape project

• 7+ years of commercial construction estimating experience.
• 2+ years managing or supervising Estimators.
• Experience leading bids for multiple complex commercial construction projects.
• Experience estimating a variety of building types.
• Strong knowledge of complex trades, including Divisions 2, 15, and 16.
• Leadership and communication skills.

• Lead estimating efforts across multiple building types and complex project scopes.

• Provide oversight on risk management, value engineering, constructability, scoping, and pricing.

• Take ownership of major bids while influencing risk management, value engineering, constructability, scope development, and pricing strategy.

• Lead project meetings, client presentations, and major bid discussions.
• Provide oversight and guidance on risk management, value engineering, constructability, scoping, and pricing.
• Maintain strong trade partner and supplier relationships and leverage market intelligence to support business decisions.
• Manage and mentor Estimators, Engineers, Senior Engineers, and Estimating Managers.
• Conduct performance reviews and create development opportunities for junior team members.
• Help establish organizational priorities, allocate resources, and drive major business development initiatives.

Qualifications

• 7+ years of commercial construction estimating experience.
• 2+ years managing or supervising Estimators.
• Experience leading bids for multiple complex commercial construction projects.
• Experience estimating a variety of building types.
• Strong knowledge of complex construction trades, including Divisions 2, 15, and 16.
• Bachelor's degree in engineering, construction management, architecture, or a related field, or equivalent relevant experience.
• Strong understanding of risk management, value engineering, constructability, safety, quality, and sustainability.
• Leadership-level communication, organization, and decision-making skills.
