LightForce Orthodontics is seeking a Maintenance Technician III to serve as the senior technical resource within the Maintenance Operations team. This role provides advanced troubleshooting, repair, and reliability expertise for production equipment and facility systems while supporting safe, efficient, and compliant manufacturing operations.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED; technical cert/associate in Industrial Maintenance; relevant experience considered.
• 5+ years of industrial maintenance in manufacturing medical device, aerospace or precision production.
• Experience supporting preventative maintenance, corrective maintenance, equipment troubleshooting and CI activities.
• Experience in GMP, ISO, medical device or similar regulated environments preferred.
• Experience with equipment installations, commissioning, facility improvements or capital projects preferred.

Responsibilities

• Lead diagnosis, troubleshooting and repair of complex mechanical, electrical, pneumatic and control system failures; document in CMMS.
• Perform advanced troubleshooting of furnace systems, compressed air, gas infrastructure, and facility electrical systems.
• Administer calibration program with schedules, calibrations, documentation review and traceability.
• Provide technical escalation and mentoring to Maintenance Technician I & II.
• Ensure compliance with LOTO and confined space procedures across shifts.
• Review and optimize PM task lists to improve equipment reliability.
• Review maintenance work orders for quality and accuracy; provide coaching.
• Lead root cause investigations and implement corrective actions to prevent reoccurrence.
• Serve as first responder for critical equipment issues and determine repair strategies.
• Provide formal/informal training and maintain training records; act as Qualified Trainer.
• Support new equipment installations, commissioning and upgrade projects.
• Partner with cross-functional teams to minimize downtime and drive reliability initiatives.
• Lead Lean, 5S and CI efforts focused on safety, uptime and productivity.
• Promote safe work practices and GMP/regulatory compliance.

Description

The Maintenance Technician III serves as the senior technical resource within the Maintenance Operations team at LightForce Orthodontics. This position provides advanced troubleshooting, repair, and reliability expertise for production equipment and facility systems while supporting safe, efficient, and compliant manufacturing operations. The Maintenance Technician III works independently with minimal supervision, serves as the primary escalation point for complex equipment issues, and provides technical guidance and mentoring to Maintenance Technician I and II team members.

This role is responsible for leading complex maintenance activities, supporting maintenance programs such as preventive maintenance and calibration, driving equipment reliability improvements, and helping ensure the accuracy of maintenance documentation and records. Working closely with Production, Engineering, Quality, and other cross-functional teams, the Maintenance Technician III contributes directly to equipment uptime, operational performance, and continuous improvement initiatives across the facility.

This position reports to the Maintenance Manager

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

• Lead diagnosis, troubleshooting and repair of complex mechanical, electrical, pneumatic and control system failures on production equipment and facility systems. Document all maintenance activities in the CMMS.
• Perform advanced troubleshooting and repair of furnace systems, compressed air and gas infrastructure and facility electrical system with minimal supervision.
• Administer the calibration program by maintaining calibration schedules, performing calibrations, reviewing and auditing documentation, and ensure traceability of calibrated equipment.
• Serve as the primary technical escalation resource for Maintenance Technician I and II personal and provide guidance during complex equipment failures.
• Ensure team compliance with all LOTO and confined space entry procedures across all shifts.
• Review, improve and optimize preventative maintenance (PM) task lists in CMMS to improve equipment reliability and performance.
• Review all maintenance work order completion by Maintenance technician I and II for quality and accuracy. Provide coaching as needed.
• Lead root cause investigations for recurring equipment failures, document findings, implement corrective actions and verify effectiveness to prevent reoccurrence.
• Serve as first responder for critical equipment issues and determine appropriate repair strategies, escalation requirements and resource needs.
• Provide formal and informal training mentorship and technical development support to Maintenance Technician I and II personnel. Maintain training records and serve as a Qualified Trainer for the team.
• Support new equipment installations, commissioning activities, facility upgrades and maintenance-related improvement projects.
• Partner with production, engineering, quality and operations teams to resolve issues and minimize manufacturing downtime.
• Lead equipment reliability initiatives through preventative maintenance optimization, equipment condition monitoring, failure analysis and continuous improvement activities.
• Lead and support Lean Manufacturing, 5S, and continuous improvement initiative focused on safety, equipment uptime, maintainability and productivity.
• Promote safe work practices and ensure compliance with company safety policies, LOTO procedures, environmental requirements, PPE standards, GMP requirements and applicable regulations.
• Perform other maintenance related duties including off shift and on-call as required.

Education & Experience

• High school diploma or GED required; Technical certificate, Associate’s Degree or equivalent experience in Industrial Maintenance, Manufacturing, Mechanical Systems related field. Equivalent combinations of education, technical training, military experience, apprenticeship programs and relevant work experience will be considered.
• Completion of a state-accredited journeyman or technical school program, or equivalent formal training with demonstrated field proficiency, strongly preferred.
• 5+ or more years of industrial maintenance experience in a manufacturing medical device, aerospace or other precision production environment.
• Experience supporting preventative maintenance, corrective maintenance, equipment troubleshooting and maintenance related continuous improvement activities.
• Experience working in regulated manufacturing environments including GMP, ISO, medical device, aerospace or similar industries preferred.
• Experience supporting equipment installations, commissioning activities, facility improvements or capital projects preferred.

Technical Skills and Knowledge

• Advanced troubleshooting and repair skills for mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, hydraulic and automated production equipment.
• Expertise in industrial furnace systems including atmosphere control systems, electrical systems, thermocouples, mechanical components and high-temperature systems.
• Advanced knowledge of compressed air systems including distribution systems, leak detection, dryers, pressure regulation, efficiency analysis, and major system repairs.
• Strong understanding of calibration, NIST traceability documentation, calibration scheduling, and recordkeeping.
• Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics, mechanical drawings, equipment manuals and technical documentation.
• Advanced electrical troubleshooting skills including panel level diagnostics, troubleshoot PLCs and VFDs, motor controls, sensors and diagnose 3-phase systems.
• Strong CMMS proficiency including Preventative Maintenance management , work order administration, asset history tracking, reporting and maintenance documentation.
• Demonstrated ability to perform root cause analysis, failure investigation and corrective action implementation to improve equipment reliability.
• Working knowledge of Lean Manufacturing, 5S, continuous improvement methodologies, and reliability centered maintenance principles.
• Ability to provide technical training, mentorship and guidance to maintenance technicians.
• Working knowledge of industrial safety programs, LOTO requirements, PPE requirements, machine guarding and safe maintenance practices.

Preferred Qualifications

• Licensed Electrician or equivalent formal electrical certification.
• PLC programming or advanced controls troubleshooting experience (Allen Bradley, Siemens, or equivalent).
• Experience in a regulated manufacturing environment such as GMP, ISO, aerospace, or medical device manufacturing.
• Exposure to additive manufacturing or similar precision production technology.
• Experience managing or directing outside service vendors and contractors.
• Forklift, crane, or aerial lift operator certification.

Physical Demands

• Ability to lift, carry, push and pull up to 50 pounds with or without reasonable accommodation.
• Ability to stand, walk, bend, climb ladders and perform physical work for extended periods.
• Use hand and powered tools, manipulate parts and hardware.
• Ability to work in manufacturing environments with exposure to heat, noise, chemicals and airborne particles while using required PPE.
