Job summary

Leidos is seeking an experienced Senior Project Manager in Reston, VA to lead engineering teams delivering electric utility projects across the United States. You will champion portfolio performance, coordinate with clients and partners, and advance PMO initiatives in a dynamic environment.

You will mentor staff, manage risk and bids, and collaborate with cross-functional teams while traveling ~20% locally and nationally. A PMP or engineering degree with utility experience is preferred.

Qualifications

• 8+ years of progressive Project Management experience in the electric power/utility industry.
• Experience with electric power and utility infrastructure projects.
• Knowledge of high voltage substation and transmission engineering preferred.
• Experience working with EPC contracts; bid proposals and cost estimates.
• Proficiency in project management software (Workfront, MS Project, P6) and MS Office.

Leidos Engineering has an opportunity for an expereinced Project Manager who will work alongside lead engineers and program managers supporting a growing clientele of construction partners. We are currently seeking a qualified applicant to provide turnkey project management services related to electric utility engineering projects throughout the United States, with local partnering opportunities in the specified location. The Project Manager will be part of an established Project Management Office within our Power Delivery Solutions division that provides consulting services to construction partners rebuilding and expanding transmission, substation, and distribution infrastructure nationwide.

As a Senior Project Manager, you can expect to:

• Lead high functioning engineering teams on large scale utility transmission, substation, and other complex projects that operate in an EPC or other progressive model that aligns engineering and construction.
• Lead a team of project managers to deliver comprehensive engineering design projects for electric utility clients
• Take ownership of overall portfolio performance, including cost, schedule, and scope management
• Drive strategic initiatives within the PMO organization, focusing on process improvements and operational efficiencies
• Serve as the Capture Manager for large scale new business opportunities and be responsible for the preparation of major proposals, estimates, and bids documents
• Mentor and develop project management staff, fostering a culture of collaboration and continuous learning
• Interface with clients and internal stakeholders to address issues, report progress, and mitigate risks across the project portfolio
• Manage monthly client invoicing, accruals, and accounts receivable processes
• Identify and pursue business development opportunities to support organizational growth
• Ensure compliance with contract requirements and quality control standards
• Maintain regular communication with stakeholders, including clients, project teams, subcontractors, and support personnel
• Identify project risks and mitigation strategies
• Travel locally and nationally as needed (roughly ~20-25%)

What you'll bring to the table (Required Qualifications):

• 8+ years of progressive Project Management experience in the electric power/electric utility industry
• Candidates must demonstrate experience with and comprehensive understanding of electric power and electric utility infrastructure projects
• Knowledge of high voltage substation and transmission engineering hihgly preferred
• Experience working with EPC (engineering, procurement, construction) Contracts will be highly preferred
• Direct experience working with project financials, bid proposals and cost estimates
• Direct Experience with portfolio management, contract management and risk mitigation
• Proficiency in project management software (e.g., Workfront, MS Project, P6) and MS Office Suite
• Strong leadership skills with a focus on portfolio management and team development
• Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
• Ability to travel periodically as required (~20%)
• Candidates must be located in the United States in order to be considered. This position cannot be performed outside of the US
• US Citizenship required

Other Preferred Qualifications:

• PMP Certification or willingness to obtain within two years
• Previous experience working in a consulting environment for US based electric utilities
• Prior experience in a leadership position
• Demonstrated success in leading cross-functional teams
• Previous experience working in a consulting environment
• Experience with PowerBI and/or visualization tools

Pay Range:

Pay Range $92,300.00 - $166,850.00
