Job summary

Muon Space is seeking a Senior Systems Engineer, EO/IR Payloads, to drive technical exploration of payload concepts, imaging modes, and use cases. You will bridge Applied Science, Payload Engineering, Product, Mission Systems, and Business Development to prototype concepts, build models, and support proposals.

You will lead early-stage R&D, perform analyses, and collaborate across disciplines to enable Muon’s missions for defense, intelligence, philanthropic, and commercial end-users.

Qualifications

• Minimum 5+ years as a systems or instrument engineer in EO/IR payloads.
• Experience with infrared, multispectral or hyperspectral sensing.
• Experience on EO/IR space missions across government/commercial markets.
• Strong modeling, simulation, and data analysis skills.

Responsibilities

• Conceptualize, analyze, demonstrate, and experiment with EO/IR payload concepts.
• Develop system and payload requirements and build simulations.
• Identify new imaging modes and use cases for stakeholders.
• Lead early-stage R&D activities as Principal Investigator.
• Collaborate with Product and Applied Science to translate ideas into architectures.
• Evaluate trades, radiometric models, and system budgets.
• Perform literature reviews and trade studies for missions and instruments.
• Support customer discovery, demonstrations, and proposals with deep EO/IR expertise.
