Job summary

U.S. Bank seeks a seasoned Environmental and Seismic Risk Officer to lead due diligence from engagement through report delivery. You will assess environmental and seismic risk for collateral properties, order and review reports, and provide clear risk recommendations.

Strong communication with stakeholders and independence are essential. This role requires extensive experience in environmental risk, regulatory standards, and Phase I/II investigations, with a track record in lending environments.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree, or equivalent work experience.
  • Typically, more than eight years of applicable experience.
  • Bachelor's degree in environmental science.
  • 10–15 years of applicable environmental experience including real estate transactions and environmental liability for lending institutions.
  • Registered Professional Geologist or Professional Engineer.
  • Advanced knowledge of environmental regulations, seismic assessment, financial services, and regulatory trends.
  • Experience with Phase I and II environmental investigations, contaminant mitigation, and seismic risk assessment.
  • Ability to propose customized environmental and seismic solutions to mitigate risk exposures.
  • Experience working for a lender as an environmental risk officer.
  • Active participation in the Environmental Bankers Association.
  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills.
  • Confidence in communicating with borrowers and lenders, including attorneys.
  • Strong relationship building and negotiation skills.
  • Self-motivated and able to work independently.
  • Strong problem solving, time management, planning, organizational and prioritization skills.
  • Ability to adapt in a dynamic environment.
  • Strong computer skills with Word, Excel, Power BI, PowerPoint, Teams, and SharePoint.

Responsibilities

  • Assess and manage environmental, seismic, and property condition risk for collateral properties.
  • Order environmental and seismic risk reports from approved consultants.
  • Identify, respond to, and escalate environmental and seismic risks as appropriate.
  • Review environmental and seismic risk reports for technical accuracy and compliance with scopes of work.
  • Communicate conclusions and recommendations in lay terms.
  • Counsel bank personnel regarding risks, mitigation options, and actions.
  • Research and analyze complex environmental issues, guidelines, and legislation.
