Senior Environmental Project Manager

Job Summary

The Senior Environmental Project Manager is responsible for leading complex environmental assessment and remediation projects while actively supporting business development and client growth initiatives. This role combines strong technical expertise with client relationship management, proposal development, and strategic market engagement. The Senior Environmental Project Manager serves as a trusted technical advisor to clients, identifies new project opportunities, develops scopes and cost estimates, and helps expand services within existing and emerging markets. This position plays a key role in revenue generation, client retention, and cross‑selling services across Environmental Remediation, Civil Engineering, and Environmental Compliance teams.

Supervisory Responsibilities
  • May supervise and mentor Staff Geologists, Project Geologists, and Field Technicians.
  • May oversee subcontractors including drillers, laboratories, specialty consultants, and remedial system contractors.
Duties / Responsibilities
  • Manage environmental site assessment and remediation projects from proposal through completion, including scope development, budgeting, scheduling, and invoicing.
  • Develop and maintain strong client relationships, serving as a primary technical and strategic point of contact.
  • Identify new business opportunities with existing and prospective clients through networking, site visits, industry events, and ongoing communication.
  • Prepare proposals, cost estimates, and qualifications packages in response to client requests and RFPs.
  • Support and contribute to annual sales goals and departmental revenue targets.
  • Collaborate with internal departments to cross‑sell services and provide integrated solutions to clients.
  • Lead Phase I and Phase II Environmental Site Assessments (ESAs), site investigations, groundwater monitoring programs, and remedial action implementation.
  • Develop and refine conceptual site models (CSMs) and evaluate contaminant fate and transport.
  • Interpret analytical data and provide strategic recommendations for regulatory closure or remedial optimization.
  • Prepare technical reports, work plans, remedial action plans, risk assessments, and regulatory submittals.
  • Coordinate with regulatory agencies to secure approvals and advance sites toward closure.
  • Provide senior‑level technical review of reports and deliverables to ensure quality and consistency.
  • Oversee field activities including drilling, well installation, aquifer testing, and remedial system implementation.
  • Mentor junior staff and support professional development within the department.
  • Promote adherence to company health and safety policies and ensure compliance on project sites.
Pay Rate

$90,000 - $120,000 annually, DOE

Required Skills / Abilities
  • Strong understanding of hydrogeology, contaminant fate and transport, and remedial technologies.
  • Demonstrated success in business development, client management, or revenue growth within environmental consulting.
  • Ability to develop scopes of work and realistic cost estimates aligned with client objectives and regulatory requirements.
  • Strong networking, communication, and relationship‑building skills.
  • Excellent technical writing and proposal development capabilities.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects, budgets, and deadlines simultaneously.
  • Working knowledge of federal and state regulatory programs (e.g., RCRA, CERCLA, UST, Brownfields, voluntary cleanup programs).
  • Strong leadership and team collaboration skills.
  • Proficiency in environmental data evaluation and reporting tools.
  • Working knowledge of OSHA and field safety requirements (HAZWOPER).
Education and Experience
  • Bachelor's degree in Geology, Hydrogeology, Environmental Science, or related field required.
  • Minimum of 8 years of progressive environmental consulting experience.
  • Demonstrated experience in proposal development and client relationship management.
  • Professional Geologist (PG) license required (multi‑state licensure preferred or ability to obtain).
  • 40‑hour OSHA HAZWOPER certification required (current refresher preferred).
Physical Requirements
  • Ability to perform fieldwork activities including walking on uneven terrain and working outdoors in varying weather conditions.
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds (e.g., sampling equipment, soil samples, water level meters).
  • Ability to stand for extended periods during drilling oversight and field investigations.
  • Occasional travel to project sites, client meetings, and industry events, including overnight travel as required.
  • Use of personal protective equipment (PPE) including hard hats, safety glasses, steel‑toed boots, gloves, and respiratory protection when required.
