Job summary

Lightship is seeking a Senior Engineering Technician in South San Francisco to join the Test Engineering team. You will build, coordinate, and execute critical testing programs for light-duty electric campers, validating performance, safety, and reliability of Lightship products.

Collaboration across engineering groups is essential to drive improvements. Responsibilities include setting up tests, leading in-test reporting, and fabricating fixtures.

Qualifications

• 6+ years as a technician in automotive/EV/cleantech/aerospace industries.
• Instrument test articles with sensors (accelerometers, thermocouples, and electrical sensors) per a documented test plan.
• Experience with data acquisition systems and measurement devices.
• Experience with welding, shop, and fabrication equipment.

Responsibilities

• Set up and execute electrical and mechanical tests for safety, performance, and reliability.
• Lead in-test reporting of progress, failures, and risks to the team onsite and remote.
• Collaborate with design engineers during post-test root-cause analysis.
• Fabricate test fixtures using various manufacturing processes.
• Maintain lab tools, equipment, and test assets for testing and demonstrations.
• Coordinate with test planning to align with program goals.

Lightship and this role are highly collaborative! You will be working cross-functionally with multiple engineering organizations to work towards our common goal of building the best all electric camping experience possible.### Responsibilities* Set up and execute a wide range of electrical and mechanical product tests. Testing includes: Safety, performance validation, and reliability tests with development and pre-production level parts and assemblies.* Lead in-test reporting of progress, failures, and testing risks to the test engineering team both onsite and remote* Collaborate with test and design engineers during post-test root cause analysis to identify failure modes and areas for product improvement* Fabricate various mechanical and electrical test fixtures using a range of manufacturing processes* Maintain all tools and equipment in the lab and continue to acquire and install new equipment to increase lab capabilities* Maintain test assets (test vehicles and test stands) and prepare them for testing, evaluation, and demonstration.* Collaborate with test engineers during the test planning phase to ensure feasible and realistic alignment with program goals### Minimum Qualifications* 6+ yrs experience working as a technician in the automotive/EV, cleantech, or aerospace industries* Experience instrumenting test articles with sensors such as accelerometers, thermocouples, and electrical sensors, and working off of a documented test plan* Experience with data acquisition systems and measurement devices* Experience with welding, shop, and fabrication equipment* Demonstrated experience working in and maintaining a lab development environment* Experience towing trailers or RVs* Experience creating custom wire harnesses and test fixtures with little oversight### Preferred Qualifications* Prior experience working in an automotive test lab* Exposure to and proficiency with high voltage safety, power electronics, and electric motors and propulsion systems* Working knowledge of automotive and AC electrical systems* Experience with soldering and instrumenting circuit boards* Experience troubleshooting software and CAN messaging systems* Experience generating technical documents for training and test report generation (PowerPoint, Word, Excel, etc.)### Compensation* Actual pay rate will be determined based on qualifications and experience.* Lightship compensation consists of the stated pay range plus equity, which gives you a stake in the company.**Employee Benefits & Philosophy - Applies to Full Time Employees only**- Healthcare, Dental, Vision- 401k- Flexible Paid Time Off - that we actually want you to use!- 13 Company Holidays: 8 throughout the year + the company observes a week of scheduled downtime during the end of the year, allowing all employees to enjoy a break- 12 weeks paid parental leave- Yearly LightTrip stipend for an RV trip &/or professional development opportunitiesLightship offers all of its full time employees and their dependents full benefits including health, dental and vision insurance.
