The City of Elko is seeking a semi-skilled engineering, drafting, surveying, and field inspection professional under the supervision of the City Engineer and/or the Senior Staff Engineer. This is a semi-skilled engineering, drafting, surveying, and field inspection position under the supervision of the City Engineer and/or the Senior Staff Engineer.
Exercises no supervision over technical or administrative support staff. Work within this class involves the application of skills and knowledge in connection with civil engineering, computer aided design and drafting (CADD), Geographical Information Systems (GIS), land surveying, mapping, drafting, and inspection.
Work assignments are delegated by the City Engineer and/or the Senior Staff Engineer, and are usually broad in scope, and involves the use of good judgment and accuracy in making decisions.
Administer the City's GIS system, including the development, maintenance, and enhancement of geospatial databases.
Perform the duties of a CADD draftsman of the Engineering Department;
This position will be responsible to perform closure checks on all City subdivision maps and City parcel maps for map accuracy and completeness;
Assists the City Engineer in preparing data for legal documents for rights-of-way and easements required for public improvements of the City;
Assists in the preparation of specifications, computations, and time and material estimates;
Assists on land and water rights surveys as required;
Performs inspections of city improvements as required;
Performs sedentary work in office environment as well as manual work associated with field duties, in sometimes, inclement weather conditions.
Performs related work as required by the City Engineer.
Possession of, or the ability to obtain, an appropriate, valid driver’s license.
Essential duties require the following physical skills and work: Ability to sit, stand, walk, kneel, crouch, stoop, squat, and lift 25 lbs.; exposure to outdoors, confining work space, and mechanical hazards; ability to travel to different sites and locations.
