Job summary

Remitly is building the Remitly Global Card, and we seek a Senior Engineering Manager to lead the Card team. You will own features end to end — screens, APIs, and services that issue cards, hold balances, and move money — as the first engineering leader in our Arlington office.

You will set engineering culture, hire future teammates, and drive AI-enabled developer productivity in a high-trust, regulated environment.

Qualifications

• BS in Computer Science or equivalent professional experience.
• 5+ years in software engineering with hands-on management.
• 5+ years hiring and managing technical teams with performance reviews.
• Experience designing secure, scalable software on cloud platforms (AWS).

Responsibilities

• Provide technical leadership and drive long-term cross-team engineering strategy.
• Partner with product and design to prioritize roadmap and translate into OKRs.
• Responsible for execution, including quarterly goals and resource allocation.

About the Role

Remitly is building the Remitly Global Card, the first ever card that gives customers a single, trusted place to hold, spend, and move their money, launching across multiple geographies. As the Senior Engineering Manager for the Card team, you will lead a team of engineers who own features end to end, the screens customers see, the APIs behind them, and the services that issue cards, hold balances, and move money. As the first engineering leader in our Arlington office, you’ll have the opportunity to set the engineering culture and future hires at Remitly. You’ll build with AI in the loop every day, as we become AI native at Remitly, while holding the correctness and trust bar a regulated money product demands. You will report to the Director of Engineering and work in a hybrid capacity from our Arlington, VA office.

You Will:

• Provide technical leadership and lead complex, long-term, cross-team engineering effort and drive engineering strategy for the squads while solving the hardest technical challenges.

• Partner with product and design stakeholders to prioritize the roadmap and translate strategic ambitions into actionable OKRs.

• Be responsible for execution, including quarterly goals, resource allocation, and prioritization.

• Hire and grow the engineering team, recruiting and onboarding experienced engineers.

• Champion safe, effective adoption of AI/agentic coding tools to boost team productivity and product velocity.

• Be a role model in upholding Remitly’s cultural values and use them as a framework to mentor other engineers across the company to achieve their full potential.

• Partner with leadership to influence and drive organizational design, contribution and prioritization.

• Represent the team in cross-functional planning with Product, Design, Analytics, and partner engineering teams

You Have:

• You have a BS (accepted) or MS (Preferred) in Computer Science or equivalent professional experience.

• 5+ years of software engineering experience, including hands‑on technical management building full‑stack software solution, API design, and interactions between servers and clients.

• 5+ years of recent experience hiring and managing technical teams, including performance management.

• Expertise in at least one backend or full‑stack programming language (e.g., Go, Kotlin, Java, TypeScript), with the ability to adapt to new languages/frameworks as needed.

• Experience designing secure, scalable, performant software using cloud‑based infrastructure (e.g., AWS).

• Demonstrated aptitude and judgment for applying AI to developer productivity and, ideally, product features — including enabling safe AI tool adoption on the team.

Compensation Details. The starting base salary range for this position is typically $208,000 - 260,000 USD Annual. In the U.S., Remitly employees are shareholders in our Company and equity is part of our total compensation plan.
