Job summary

SoFi Tech Solutions is seeking a Senior Engineering Manager to lead the Data Team. You will own the roadmap for data collection, modeling, governance, and serving, and build the team to deliver on it. In the first year you will formalize Data Products strategy, launch a new analytics platform, and modernize our Data Platform.

This role suits someone who has scaled a data organization, operates in a regulated fintech environment, and can shape both architecture and team culture.

Qualifications

• 8+ years in data engineering, infrastructure, or a related field.
• 5+ years directly managing engineers or analysts (ideally 6+).
• Experience owning a data platform end-to-end: pipelines, warehousing, orchestration, and governance.
• Strong knowledge of modern cloud data warehousing (Snowflake/BigQuery/Redshift), cloud infra (AWS/Terraform), and streaming/ingestion tooling (Kafka/DMS/Flink).
• Track record of building or scaling a data team and mentoring.

• Set technical direction and engineering standards for data pipelines, warehousing, and analytics tooling.
• Manage team roadmap, prioritization, and delivery against business goals.
• Own the architecture and reliability of our data platform (ingestion, ETL/ELT, orchestration, storage, serving layers).
• Extend data governance, access control, and PCI/SOC2-compliant handling practices using enterprise standards.
• Partner with Finance, Risk, Product, Operations to translate reporting and analytics needs into scalable data models.
• Oversee dashboards, metrics layers, and semantic models, championing data quality and a single source of truth.

The Role

We’re looking for a Senior Engineering Manager to lead the Data Team. You’ll own the roadmap for how we collect, model, govern, and serve data - and build the team needed to deliver on it. In the first year, that includes formalizing our Data Products strategy, launching a new analytics platform and modernizing our Data Platform capabilities.

This role is ideal for someone who has scaled a data organization before, is comfortable operating in a regulated fintech environment, and wants to shape both technical architecture and set the tone for team culture.

What you’ll do:

• Own hiring, onboarding, and career development for the Data Platform and Data Analytics teams; build out the team as the org scales.
• Set technical direction and engineering standards for data pipelines, warehousing, and analytics tooling.
• Manage team roadmap, prioritization, and delivery against business goals.
• Own the architecture and reliability of our data platform (ingestion, ETL/ELT, orchestration, storage, and serving layers), build a strong culture of ownership and incident response.
• Extend data governance, access control, and PII/PCI‑compliant handling practices by leveraging SoFi’s enterprise Data Platform and governance standards
• Partner with business stakeholders (Finance, Risk, Product, Operations) to translate reporting and analytics needs into scalable data models and self‑serve tooling
• Oversee dashboards, metrics layers, and semantic models that the broader org can trust and use independently, championing data quality and a single source of truth

What We’re Looking For:

• 8+ years in data engineering, infrastructure, or a related field, including 5+ years directly managing engineers or analysts (ideally including managing leads or a team of 6+).
• Proven experience owning a data platform end‑to‑end: pipelines, warehousing, orchestration (Airflow, dbt), and governance.
• Strong knowledge of modern cloud data warehousing (Snowflake, BigQuery, or Redshift), cloud infrastructure/IaC (AWS, Terraform), and streaming/ingestion tooling (Kafka, DMS, Flink), plus security/compliance frameworks.
• Track record of building or scaling a data team, including hiring and mentoring.
• Comfortable operating in a regulated environment (financial services, PCI/SOC2, or similar), with the stakeholder management skills to navigate a matrixed relationship with a parent company’s teams.
• Strong systems thinking and ability to balance build‑vs‑buy, short‑term delivery vs. long‑term platform health.

Bonus Points

• Experience in fintech, banking, or payments.
• Experience working within or alongside a larger parent organization (M&A integration, shared services, etc.)
