Job summary

Coinbase is seeking a Senior Engineering Manager for Core Automation to lead multiple teams building Agentic AI systems that transform compliance and customer support at scale.

You will set technical direction for production AI systems, guide architectures, and partner with Compliance and Operations to deliver measurable business impact across the platform.

Qualifications

• 10+ years in software engineering with at least 5 years of engineering management experience, including 2+ years managing managers and building teams from the ground up.
• Proven track record shipping LLM-based or Agentic AI applications to production, including grounding, guardrails, and evaluation.
• Deep technical fluency in distributed systems, cloud-native architecture, and modern AI/ML infrastructure.
• Demonstrated success leading cross-functional engineering initiatives in ambiguous, fast-moving domains.
• Experience in compliance, regulatory technology, customer support automation, or financial crimes domains.
• Utilizes generative AI responsibly, maintaining human oversight to deliver business-ready outputs and drive measurable improvements.

• Lead multiple parallel engineering initiatives across compliance automation domains, maintaining high delivery velocity while ensuring system correctness and service quality
• Establish engineering standards, code review practices, and AI adoption frameworks that raise the quality bar and accelerate the team's ability to ship production AI systems

As a Senior Engineering Manager on the Core Automation team within the Platform group, you'll lead the engineering organization building Agentic AI systems that are transforming how Coinbase operates. This team is reimagining compliance and customer support processes for a fully AI-driven world, designing intelligent agents, orchestration frameworks, and guardrail systems that improve compliance posture and customer experience at scale. You'll build and grow multiple engineering teams, set the technical direction for production AI systems, and partner with Compliance and Operations leadership to deliver automation that creates measurable business impact.

Required Skills and Experience:

• 10+ years in software engineering with at least 5 years of engineering management experience, including 2+ years managing managers and building teams from the ground up

• Proven track record shipping LLM-based or Agentic AI applications to production, including experience with grounding, hallucination reduction, guardrails, and AI system evaluation

• Deep technical fluency in distributed systems, cloud-native architecture, and modern AI/ML infrastructure, with hands-on ability to review code, lead architecture decisions, and guide system design

• Demonstrated success leading cross-functional engineering initiatives in ambiguous, fast-moving domains, translating high-level strategic goals into executable roadmaps with clear milestones

• Experience in compliance, regulatory technology, customer support automation, or financial crimes domains

• Utilizes generative AI responsibly, maintaining human oversight to deliver business-ready outputs and drive measurable improvements in workflow efficiency, cost, and quality.

Pay Transparency Notice: Base salary varies by location (see range below). Total compensation may also include equity and bonus eligibility, and benefits (medical, dental, vision, 401(k)).

Annual base salary range (excluding equity and bonus):

$253,895—$298,700 USD
