This is a highly visible technical leadership opportunity responsible for developing, implementing, and continuously improving controls engineering standards across a growing portfolio of mission-critical and data center projects.
The Senior Manager will serve as a key technical authority across Building Management Systems (BMS), Electrical Power Monitoring Systems (EPMS), SCADA, controls architecture, automation, and OT infrastructure.
This individual will partner closely with electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, commissioning, construction, IT/OT security, controls vendors, systems integrators, and external engineering partners to establish scalable controls standards and ensure reliable system performance from design through commissioning and operation.
The ideal candidate brings deep technical experience in data center or mission-critical controls, including hands-on knowledge of BMS and EPMS systems, controls programming and troubleshooting, system integration, commissioning, and technical standards development.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and own company-wide standards for BMS and EPMS systems across new data center developments.
- Establish controls architecture standards covering electrical monitoring, mechanical systems, metering, alarm management, system integration, and network architecture.
- Lead technical review of BMS, EPMS, SCADA, and controls designs throughout the project lifecycle.
- Review and approve controls design packages, points lists, sequences of operation, network diagrams, and alarm matrices.
- Partner with electrical engineering teams on metering, power monitoring, protective relay integration, and power-quality requirements.
- Partner with mechanical engineering teams on controls strategies for chilled-water systems, CRAH/CRAC units, VFDs, economizers, and other critical mechanical equipment.
- Provide technical oversight during construction, startup, commissioning, testing, and energization.
- Support controls troubleshooting and integration issues involving devices, communications, programming, system interoperability, and field implementation.
- Evaluate and select controls platforms, PLCs, RTUs, sensors, software, and systems integrators.
- Support RFP development, vendor evaluation, bid review, and systems integrator selection.
- Establish controls network standards related to redundancy, segmentation, cybersecurity, and IT/OT integration.
- Partner with commissioning teams to ensure systems are designed and implemented for successful functional performance testing.
- Develop strategies for automation, remote monitoring, alarm management, DCIM integration, analytics, and digital-twin capabilities.
- Manage and develop relationships with controls vendors, consultants, integrators, engineering partners, and internal stakeholders.
- Help build and mentor an internal controls engineering organization as the business continues to scale.

- Familiarity with SCADA and DCIM integration.
- Knowledge of controls protocols such as BACnet, Modbus, OPC UA, SNMP, and IEC 61850.
- Familiarity with OT cybersecurity, network segmentation, and controls-system security principles.
- Experience supporting commissioning and functional performance testing of controls systems.
- Ability to communicate complex technical concepts to engineers, contractors, vendors, executives, and other stakeholders.
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Controls/Instrumentation Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related discipline preferred.
Preferred Experience
- Experience establishing controls standards across multiple data center projects or facilities.
- Background with a hyperscaler, colocation provider, mission-critical engineering firm, controls integrator, BMS/EPMS provider, or equipment manufacturer.
- Experience with high-density or AI/HPC data-center environments.
- Familiarity with liquid cooling, predictive analytics, digital twins, or advanced monitoring technologies.
- Professional certifications such as CAP, Tridium Niagara, CDCDP, PMP, PE, or similar are beneficial but not required.
