Job summary

Kier & Wright is seeking a Senior Engineering Technician in Irvine to independently solve design problems and prepare technical Civil3D plans under civil engineers and project managers.

The role requires strong AutoCAD Civil3D proficiency, ability to research engineering requirements, perform basic calculations, and maintain CAD standards for multiple projects in a dynamic environment.

Qualifications

• 6+ years of experience with AutoCAD Civil 3D, civil engineering, and/or land development projects.

Responsibilities

• Carries out tasks assigned by the Project Lead and engineering team.
• Designs on-site and off-site improvements under senior staff guidance.
• Develops civil plan sets (grading, drainage, paving) using AutoCAD Civil3D.
• Proficient in Civil3D grading feature lines, terrain model, earthworks, corridors, labels.
• Proficient in Civil3D utility pipe networks and related structures.
• Determines scales, layout, and detail requirements for drawings.
• Prepares drawings per CAD standards and project specs.
• Manages personal time to meet project obligations (budget, quality, schedule).
• Other duties as assigned.

SUMMARY

The Senior Engineering Technician can independently solve design problems and carry out tasks assigned by civil engineers and project managers with little supervision. They must be highly proficient in AutoCAD Civil3D to independently prepare technical engineering plans. They will also research engineering requirements, prepare basic engineering calculations, maintain company CAD standards, and assist in preparing reports or related work as required.

RESPONSIBILITIES

• Carries out tasks assigned by the Project Lead and engineering team.
• Assists with the design of on-site and off-site improvements under the direction of senior engineering staff.
• Develops civil plan sets (grading, drainage, and paving) from sketches in AutoCAD Civil 3D.
• Proficient in AutoCAD Civil3D grading feature lines, terrain model, earthworks, corridors, labels, etc.
• Proficient in AutoCAD Civil3D utility pipe networks, modification of utility structures, etc.
• Determines scales, layout, and need for specific detail.
• Prepares drawings per company CAD standards and project-dependent CAD specifications.
• Manages personal time allotted to various tasks in order to meet obligations of one or more projects, including budget, quality and schedule.
• Other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION + EXPERIENCE

• 6+ years of experience with AutoCAD Civil 3D, civil engineering, and/or land development projects.
• General knowledge of computers, Microsoft office, Adobe, Internet, etc.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS AND/OR WORKING CONDITIONS

• Prolonged periods of sitting (up to 8 hours a day for office staff)
• Interacting with technology (computer, cellphone, etc.)
• Ability to lift and/or carry items (up to 20 lbs.)
• Prolonged periods of standing/walking (field checks)
• Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions (field checks)
• Occasional travel e.g. driving to offices, jobsites, client meetings, etc.
