Job summary

HNTB Corporation seeks a senior roadway engineering expert for the Williamson County Road Bond GEC Program in Round Rock, TX. You will review designs from consultants, lead comment-resolution meetings, and advise on schematic development through final signed plans.

This role supports multiple concurrent projects and advances HNTB’s transportation practice. The ideal candidate has extensive roadway design experience, PE certification in Texas, and a track record of leading complex public works

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field plus 12 years of experience OR Master’s degree with 11 years of experience OR 16 years of experience in lieu of a degree.
  • Texas PE certification is preferred.
  • Roles require senior engineering advisory experience and ability to lead complex roadway projects.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as a senior engineering advisor for the Williamson County Road Bond GEC Program and multiple concurrent projects.
  • Provide technical reviews of schematics, PS&E, and drainage reports; identify constructability improvements.
  • Lead cost estimates and technical materials for program planning and stakeholder meetings.
  • Support business development and thought leadership within the practice area.

Job description

What We’re Looking For

Serves as HNTB’s senior roadway engineering subject matter expert for the Williamson County Road Bond GEC Program. Provides senior-level engineering review of design plans prepared by third-party consultants; facilitates plan review comment resolution meetings; evaluates engineering concepts; develops and recommends solutions for complex roadway design challenges; communicates technical concepts to the client; and advises on roadway design from schematic development through final signed and sealed plans. This position is dedicated to the HNTB Williamson County Road Bond GEC Program and supports the advancement of multiple concurrent design projects.

What You’ll Do

Applies technical expertise and guidance in area of practice. Acts as subject matter expert to provide strategic advice and analysis and engage in marketing and business development efforts for pursuits. Prepares technical materials for projects, including strategic analyses, commercial documentation, technical provisions, procurement documents, and other materials pertaining to applicable subject matter focus. Works with the line organization in a senior support role on strategically important client and project pursuits, providing technical input and market knowledge to navigate complex projects and enhance win probabilities and client satisfaction. Targets national and international associations, trade shows, etc., to help the division/region/office identify leads, win work and maintain industry recognition. Identifies, pursues, and executes high‑level projects with assigned departments, agencies, and programs. Assists in the successful contracting and project execution process, working closely with regional HNTB staff and office leadership. Partners with National Practice Consultants and Leaders to develop and promote technical knowledge and applicability of practice area. Works with HNTB project leadership to manage client relationships and guides the application of HNTB services within a specific practice area to best serve the interests of the client and HNTB. Contributes to strategic planning in area of expertise and assists with thought leadership initiatives. Performs other duties as assigned.

What You’ll Do

Serve as a senior engineering advisor for the Williamson County Road Bond GEC Program, supporting for multiple concurrent projects. Provide technical reviews of schematics, PS&E, and drainage reports for road projects at various stages of development. Review schematic submittals for right‑of‑way needs, drainage and detention requirements, environmental considerations, utility impacts, and safe roadway design. Identify design approaches that reduce project risk, improve constructability, and avoid unnecessary construction costs Review PS&E plans for appropriate level of detail, constructability, compliance with current Williamson County and TxDOT design approaches, and accurate quantity calculations. Prepare or review independent engineering estimates to validate consultant assumptions and support cost‑effective recommendations to the client. Lead preparation of cost estimates, maps, and technical materials for bond program planning, committee briefings, and stakeholder meetings. Review, recommend, and support updates to program design criteria manuals, general notes, and related technical guidance. Apply roadway design, planning, technical review, and project coordination experience to advance complex bond program projects and support consistent program delivery.

What We Prefer
  • 20 years of roadway design experience in central Texas Texas Professional Engineer (PE) certification
