This function creates strategies for the portfolio and innovative solutions based on relationships with business leaders, develops back-end solutions and capabilities, and improves the front-end experience.
Commercial Technologies Software Engineering develops design options, process improvements and back-end solutions for commercial technologies to maximize performance and suitability for business needs. This job family manages engineering projects and plans for commercial technologies and interfaces with product managers to develop objectives. This job family assesses product systems, identifies opportunities for process and system improvements, and develops solutions through application of engineering principles.
Own technical execution quality for assigned solution areas, including implementation approach, engineering task breakdown, and delivery of technical components to agreed standards
Lead design and code reviews to ensure industry standards and best practices are met
Identify technical risks early and propose options, tradeoffs, and mitigation plans in partnership with delivery leadership
Provide system and architecture awareness to ensure solution components fit together end‑to‑end and align to standards and patterns
Define and reinforce reference architectures/standards to promote standardization and reuse where applicable
Create supporting technical documentation to guide critical decisions and ensure continuity across teams
Operates as a senior individual contributor, providing deep technical leadership without direct responsibility for enterprise‑level ownership
Leads technical execution on complex initiatives, independently defining implementation approaches, tasks, and technical deliverables
Owns technical standards, code quality, and design integrity for assigned solution areas
Translates business and solution intent into sound technical designs and implementation decisions
Partners closely with Solution Owners, Product, and delivery teams to assess feasibility, identify risks, and recommend tradeoffs
Serves as a technical authority and escalation point for complex engineering and production issues
Applies SDLC practices consistently and reinforces engineering discipline across design, build, test, and release activities
Influences outcomes through expertise and collaboration rather than positional authority
Coaches and mentors engineers, raising overall team technical maturity and execution consistency
Success is measured by technical leadership, execution quality, and enablement of delivery teams—not by ownership of budgets, roadmaps, or end‑to‑end delivery outcomes.

Consistent application of engineering standards, effective code/design review discipline, and improved team technical maturity
Improved run stability and faster resolution of complex technical issues through monitoring‑informed troubleshooting and root‑cause analysis
Strong partnership with Solution Owners by providing feasible technical options and risk tradeoffs without assuming enterprise ownership
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or related field, or equivalent work experience
8+ years of hands‑on software development and/or application development experience (custom and/or enterprise platforms) preffered
Experience in SDLC processes including requirements analysis and system design, and/or software engineering principles
Demonstrated ability to lead complex technical initiatives, define deliverables, and resolve production issues effectively
Experience with build & run operational practices (incident/change concepts, CMDB/ITIL‑adjacent exposure)
Experience partnering with Risk/Security and operating in regulated environments where reliability and controls matter
Experience producing reference standards, technical roadmaps, and reusable patterns within a platform or solution domain
Applies advanced knowledge and understanding of concepts, principles, and technical capabilities to manage a wide variety of projects
Participates in the development of policies and procedures to achieve specific goals
Recommends new practices, processes, metrics, or models
Works on or may lead complex projects of large scope
Projects may have significant and long-term impact
Provides solutions which may set precedent
Independently determines method for completion of new projects
Receives guidance on overall project objectives
Acts as a mentor to less experienced colleagues
Anticipated salary range: $123,400 - $176,300
