Job summary

Astrion is seeking a Senior Engineer/Scientist to support the U.S. Navy's Expeditionary Radar program at Dahlgren, VA. You will lead systems engineering for radar-related hardware and software.

On-site at NSA Dahlgren, you will define requirements, perform architecture analyses, develop MBSE models (e.g., MATLAB-based tools), and contribute to verification and accreditation. U.S. citizenship and a Secret clearance are required.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college in Mechanical, Electrical, Computer, Electronics Engineering, Mathematics, Computer Science or Physics.
  • Must have current DoD Secret clearance or be able to obtain one.
  • Engineering degrees from ABET-accredited programs.
  • Ten+ years of relevant engineering or scientific experience; advanced degrees may count toward experience.
  • Experience in systems engineering for complex radar/sensor/combat-system or similar systems.
  • Experience with requirements development, decomposition, allocation, traceability, system specifications, and interface definition.
  • Experience applying MBSE methods and tools to system architecture, requirements, or design activities.
  • Experience with technical modeling, simulation, system-performance analysis, or radar analysis.
  • Ability to prepare and present clear technical analyses and engineering documentation.
  • On-site work at Dahlgren; U.S. citizen.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and execute systems engineering plans for radar system design, integration, verification, and sustainment.
  • Define, decompose, allocate, and manage system and subsystem requirements across hardware and software.
  • Develop and maintain system specifications, baselines, and interface control documents.
  • Assess completeness, consistency, traceability, and technical compliance of requirements.
  • Apply MBSE processes and tools to support architecture, requirements management, and design analysis.
  • Perform radar system architecture, interoperability, and performance analyses.
  • Develop engineering models and analytical tools to predict radar-system performance.
  • Support model verification, validation, and accreditation by evaluating fidelity against data.
  • Participate in radar, combat-system, and platform integration activities.
  • Support radar signal-processing engineering including waveform development and EMC considerations.
  • Plan and support focused integration and test activities; analyze test data with MATLAB.
  • Prepare technical reports, assessments, briefings, and recommendations for Government managers and stakeholders.

JOB LOCATION: Dahlgren, VA

JOB STATUS: Full Time

SALARY: $135,000 to $165,000

Astrion has an opening for a Senior Engineer/Scientist supporting the U.S. Navy's Expeditionary Radar (ExR) Program, formerly titled G/ATOR, located on-site at Naval Support Facility Dahlgren in Dahlgren, VA.

REQUIRED QUALIFICIATIONS / SKILLS

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in: Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Electronics Engineering, Mathematics, Computer Science, Physics
  • Must have a current DoD Secret security clearance or be able to obtain and maintain a minimum DoD Secret clearance.
  • Engineering degrees must be from a school with at least one ABET-accredited professional engineering curriculum.
  • Ten or more years of relevant engineering or scientific experience; advanced degrees may be considered toward the experience requirement.
  • Experience in systems engineering for complex radar, sensor, combat-system, or comparable technical systems.
  • Experience with requirements development, decomposition, allocation, traceability, system specifications, and interface definition.
  • Experience applying MBSE methods and tools to system architecture, requirements, or design activities.
  • Experience with technical modeling, simulation, system-performance analysis, or radar analysis.
  • Ability to prepare and present clear technical analyses, recommendations, and engineering documentation.
  • Must be able to work on-site at Naval Support Facility Dahlgren.
  • Must be a U.S. citizen.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS / SKILLS

  • Advanced degree in engineering, mathematics, computer science, physics, or a related STEM discipline.
  • Experience supporting the Expeditionary Radar Program, G/ATOR, or another advanced radar program.
  • Experience with radar-system architecture, signal processing, sensor integration, or performance analysis.
  • Experience with MATLAB and engineering analysis tools.
  • Experience supporting Navy or Department of Defense engineering and acquisition programs.
  • Experience with model verification, validation, or accreditation.

  • Define, decompose, allocate, and manage system and subsystem requirements across hardware and software.
  • Develop and maintain system specifications, requirements baselines, capability documents, and interface control documents.
  • Assess the completeness, consistency, traceability, and technical compliance of system, subsystem, component, and interface requirements.
  • Apply model-based systems engineering processes, methods, and tools to support system architecture, requirements management, design analysis, and technical decision-making.
  • Perform radar system architecture, interoperability, and performance analyses.
  • Develop engineering models and analytical tools to predict, assess, and verify radar-system performance.
  • Support model verification, validation, and accreditation by evaluating model fidelity and comparing modeled results with system data.
  • Participate in radar, combat-system, and platform integration activities.
  • Support radar signal-processing engineering, including waveform development, clutter management, electronic protection, electromagnetic compatibility, and implementation of new processing techniques.
  • Plan and support focused integration and test activities, analyze test data using MATLAB and laboratory tools, and document technical results.
  • Prepare technical reports, engineering assessments, briefings, and recommendations for Government program managers and technical stakeholders.
