Job summary

Johnson & Johnson is recruiting a Senior Engineer, R&D to join our MedTech Surgery group within the Aesthetics & Reconstruction line at the Raritan, NJ site with an alternate Irving, TX location. The role leads cross-functional teams to design, develop and manufacture breast implants, tissue expanders, and related products under regulatory requirements.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Biomedical, Chemical Engineering or related technical discipline.
  • Advanced degree in a related discipline preferred.
  • 2–4+ years of progressive medical device R&D or related technical experience.
  • Ability to travel up to 10% as needed.

Responsibilities

  • Lead conceptualization, design and development of new devices with commercialization intent per Quality System Requirements.
  • Contribute to design and development of product line extensions and improvements.
  • Lead design, development, execution and analysis of system, device, component and material tests.
  • Translate user and patient needs into design requirements and verified devices.
  • Lead verification and validation activities through regulatory clearance and design transfer.
  • Contribute to generation of intellectual property.
  • Collaborate with clinicians and internal customers to identify needs and validate designs.
  • Coordinate with regulatory, manufacturing, quality to satisfy regulatory requirements.
  • Manage development partners and external vendors to meet timelines.
  • Coordinate and execute technical and peer reviews; assist with design reviews.

Position Summary

The Senior Engineer will be responsible for leading and contributing to cross-functional multidisciplinary project teams (R&D, manufacturing, marketing, regulatory, etc.) in the design, development and manufacturing of breast implants, tissue expanders, and related products and processes to fulfill clinical needs within regulatory requirements.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead conceptualization, design and development of new devices or elements of new devices with the intent of commercialization per Quality System Requirements
  • Contribute to design/development of product line extensions and product improvements
  • Help lead design, development, execution and analysis of results of system, device, component and material tests per laboratory best practices
  • Accurately and efficiently translate user and patient needs through design requirements, design specifications and into verified/validated devices and procedures
  • Lead verification and validation activities through regulatory clearance and design transfer
  • Contribute strongly in the generation of intellectual property
  • Collaborate with external (e.g., clinicians) and internal customers (e.g., strategic marketing) to identify user needs and validate device and procedure designs
  • Collaborate with clinical, regulatory, quality, manufacturing, etc., to ensure development of innovative and reliable devices that fulfill clinical needs within regulatory requirements
  • Help manage development partners and other external vendors to meet project requirements and timelines
  • Coordinate and execute technical and peer reviews; may also include coordination and execution of design reviews
  • May involve direct or indirect supervision of engineers and/or technicians
  • Other responsibilities as required or assigned by manager
Qualifications
  • A minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or a related technical discipline is required.
  • Advanced degree in Mechanical Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or a related technical discipline is preferred.
  • A minimum of 2-4+ years of progressive experience in medical device R&D, or related technical roles is required.
  • Ability to travel up to 10% as needed.

The anticipated base pay range for this position is :

$92,000.00 - $148,350.00

Additional Description for Pay Transparency

The Company maintains highly competitive, performance-based compensation programs. Under current guidelines, this position is eligible for an annual performance bonus in accordance with the terms of the applicable plan. The annual performance bonus is a cash bonus intended to provide an incentive to achieve annual targeted results by rewarding for individual and the corporation’s performance over a calendar/performance year. Bonuses are awarded at the Company’s discretion on an individual basis.
