Job summary

The J.M. Smucker Company in Topeka KS is seeking a Senior Engineer, Process to lead safety, quality and productivity on the designated line. This on-site role requires collaboration with engineering and operations to drive continuous improvement.

You will own the CQV process for new projects, coordinate across teams, coach operators, and apply Smucker CI methodologies to reduce losses and improve reliability. Bachelor's in Engineering and manufacturing experience are required.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in engineering required.
• 2 years of manufacturing experience required.
• Self-motivated and able to work with minimal supervision.
• Capable of learning technical processes and systems.

Responsibilities

• Enhance safety, quality and productivity by eliminating defects and leading loss-saving initiatives.
• Own the Commissioning Qualification and Verification (CQV) process for new projects.
• Serve as single point of contact between engineering and operations to ensure involvement in project execution and turnover.
• Drive high-performance culture by coaching on the floor and enabling problem solving.
• Develop expert understanding of manufacturing process mechanics, instrumentation and product specs for the designated line/area.
• Coach teams and leadership to root cause identification and loss elimination.
• Address gaps in line/area performance through continuous improvement methodologies.
• Own a safety and/or quality key element.
• Participate in training and qualification programs for designated line/area, assess and maintain qualification standards.
• Responsible for reliability and quality data in Proficy plant applications, improve data collection methods.
• Organize and prioritize initiatives to meet department master plan and plant long-term vision.
• Manage time and resources to complete projects.
• Stay current with new technologies/ingredients.

Your Opportunity as the Sr. Engineer Process

Location: Topeka KS plant

Work Arrangements: 100% on-site

Reports To: Operations Manager

In this role you will:

• Enhance overall safety quality and productivity in the Department area by eliminating defects identifying and executing loss saving initiatives and building capability in the operating teams
• Owner of the Commissioning Qualification and Verification (CQV) process for new projects
• Act as single point of contact and key organizational leader between engineering and operations team to ensure full involvement during project execution and seamless transition during turnover to operations
• Drive high-performance work culture by engaging with team members on the floor and coaching to problem solve make decisions and become self-reliant
• Develop an expert level understanding of the manufacturing process mechanics instrumentation and product specifications of your designated line/area provide technical support to the line/area teams
• Coach operating teams and leadership to root cause identification and elimination of losses
• Address gaps in line/area performance through the implementation and effective coaching of Smucker Continuous Improvement methodologies foster a zero-loss culture
• Own a safety and/or quality key element
• Active participation in training and qualification programs for designated line/area participate in assessments ensure effective training and maintain consistent qualification standards
• Responsible for reliability and quality data for designated line/area in Proficy plant applications software including improving methods for collecting accurate data
• Organize and prioritize initiatives to help meet department master plan and plant long-term vision
• Employ effective interpersonal time and resource management skills to complete projects assignments
• Help organization stay current with applicable new technologies/ingredients

Minimum Requirements:

• Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering
• 2 years of manufacturing experience
• Self-motivated and can work well with minimal direct supervision
• Capable of learning technical processes and systems
