Job summary

AMERICAN SYSTEMS is seeking a General Engineer to support a high-visibility DoW program. You will work with IPTs, leads, and leadership to manage equipment, develop hands-on expertise, and contribute to lifecycle support.

The role emphasizes on-site collaboration and rapid adaptation to urgent requirements. The candidate should have a physics or engineering background, 5+ years of relevant experience, and be able to obtain TS/SCI clearance.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Physics, Engineering, or a related field (or High School Diploma / GED plus 6 additional years of directly relevant experience).
• 5+ years of experience working as a physicist or as an electrical, mechanical, or related engineer.
• Demonstrated machining experience.
• Demonstrated computer aided design (CAD) experience.
• U.S. Citizenship and active Secret clearance at time of hire.
• Ability to obtain and maintain TS/SCI as required by the program.
• Ability to work 100% on-site with occasional travel.

Responsibilities

• Be responsible for hands-on testing, troubleshooting, installation, calibration, repair, and modification of equipment and systems.
• Learn new skills from senior scientists and engineers and develop into a local SME.
• Manage design, procurement, and fabrication in support of instrument acquisition and life-cycle support.
• Manage the end-to-end procurement process by identifying and qualifying vendors, obtaining quotes, and tracking purchase orders to ensure timely delivery of critical items.
• Solve technical problems in accordance with prescribed specifications.
• Conduct laboratory and field work as a junior member of a multidisciplinary team.
• Write standard operation procedures (SOPs), reports, and technical requirements.
• Assist in development, maintenance, and sharing of systems level knowledge within your functional area.
• Adjust plans to accommodate urgent requirements.
• Work safely in an environment that may contain electrical, chemical, physical, or machine hazards.
