Job summary

Oshkosh’s IMT division in Iowa seeks a Senior Mechanical Engineer to design functional, reliable, and cost-effective heavy-duty vehicle components and provide integration support for vehicle and component design.

You will perform analyses, evaluate designs for performance and safety, and prepare layouts, drawings, and bills of material while collaborating with other engineers and supporting production. This role combines office and field work in a dynamic manufacturing environment.

Qualifications

  • Accredited Bachelor's degree in Engineering or related field with 3+ years of related experience.

Responsibilities

  • Design functional, reliable, and cost-effective heavy-duty vehicle components.
  • Perform engineering analysis, design or redesign, and development of components into existing and new vehicles.
  • Provide integration and execution support for vehicle and component design.
  • Collaborate with other engineering or business support disciplines and mentor entry-level engineers.
  • Maintain communication with suppliers and customers concerning technical issues.

The Senior Mechanical Engineer designs functional, reliable and cost effective, heavy duty vehicle components. Perform engineering analysis and design or re-design, and development of components into existing and new vehicles. Provide integration and execution support for vehicle and component design.

YOUR IMPACT

These duties are not meant to be all-inclusive and other duties may be assigned :

  • Under supervision, perform engineering calculations, investigations, and tasks as assigned according to Oshkosh as well as general industry engineering standards and processes.
  • Support more senior engineers in the preparation of plans, designs, computation methods, and/or reporting.
  • Responsible for a project or part of a project of limited complexity.
  • May be responsible for managing multiple projects.
  • Collaborate as needed with other engineering or business support disciplines internally as well as suppliers externally.
  • Provide guidance or mentorship to entry level engineers, designers, or technicians working on a common project.
  • Maintain effective communication with suppliers, internal and external customers, and outside resources concerning technical issues.
  • Enforce the proper use of engineering criteria and drawing standards. Ensure that technical issues are conducted within the framework of company policies and procedures.
  • Evaluate designs for performance, safety, and reliability.
  • Perform and Directs preparation of layouts, drawings, specifications, and bills of material.
  • Perform engineering analysis to support the selection of parts, components, and materials that meet requirements.
  • Provide technical assistance for production support.
  • Analyze and resolve issues reported to Engineering via verbal or written communication.
  • Prepare technical proposals, quotations, reports, and presentations.
  • Create and maintain project documentation for analysis, research, and historical records.
  • Utilize analytical and mathematical approaches to calculate or model system performance and optimize designs.
  • Analyze and resolve issues reported to Engineering and communicate status via verbal or written communication.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  • Accredited Bachelor's degree in Engineering or related field with three (3) or more years of related experience.
STANDOUT QUALIFICATIONS
  • Accredited Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering.
  • Mechanical knowledge of automotive or heavy-vehicle equipment and related systems.
  • Experience with a high level CAD system.
WORKING CONDITIONS

The following represents general working conditions for this role. Specific conditions may vary depending on business needs and individual circumstances. This role combines office-based administrative duties with physical activity in field or production environments. In the office setting, tasks may require extended computer use, sitting, and attending meetings. Field or floor work may involve walking across various terrains or shop floors, standing, moderate lifting (up to 50 pounds), climbing stairs, and exposure to varying temperatures or noise levels. Must be able to shift focus between detailed cognitive work and occasional physical tasks as needed. Pay Range:

$73,200.00 - $117,800.00

The above pay range reflects the minimum and maximum target pay for the position across all U.S. locations. Within this range, individual pay is determined by various factors, including the scope and responsibilities of the role, the candidate's experience, education and skills, as well as the equity of pay among team members in similar positions.
