Job summary

Oracle is seeking a Senior Member of Technical Staff in Nashville to help build lightweight infrastructure and a next-generation runtime for compute, storage, and networking. You will design, implement, and test scalable services, contributing to a greenfield cloud platform with strong emphasis on reliability and security.

You will collaborate across teams to ensure operability, performance, and governance, while driving automation, IaC, and incident response in a fast-moving environment.

Qualifications

• BS/MS in Computer Science or equivalent practical experience.
• 3–5+ years of software engineering experience building reliable services, infrastructure, or distributed systems.
• Strong programming skills in at least one systems or backend language (Java, Go, Rust, C/C++, Python).
• Strong foundation in data structures, algorithms, OS, networking, concurrency, and distributed-systems fundamentals.
• Experience or strong interest in cloud infrastructure, virtualization, Linux systems, containers, storage, networking, security, schedulers, or control planes.
• Ability to design, build, test, and debug reliable software in a large, evolving codebase.
• Strong communication, collaboration, and ownership mindset.

• Deliver features and load/performance tests; leverage data plane platforms and distributed state tools.
• Review peers’ implementations for scalability compliance; build fault-tolerant paths and retries.
• Proactively detect and mitigate issues via tests, alarms, dashboards, and telemetry; write runbooks and participate in incident response.

Within OCI, the Technical Strategy & Oversight organization builds foundational systems for OCI’s most demanding services. One of its boldest initiatives is Autonomous OCI: a greenfield effort to build a cloud platform that can operate and scale with far less manual work.

As a Senior Member of Technical Staff, you will help build Lightweight Infrastructure (LWI), the next-generation runtime and platform layer for compute, storage, networking, identity, observability, and governance.

Qualifications

• BS/MS in Computer Science, or equivalent practical experience.
• 3–5+ years of software engineering experience building reliable services, infrastructure, or distributed systems.
• Strong programming skills in at least one systems or backend language, such as Java, Go, Rust, C/C++, or Python. Rust experience is a strong plus for compute and systems-oriented roles.
• Strong foundation in data structures, algorithms, operating systems, networking, concurrency, and distributed-systems fundamentals.
• Experience or strong interest in cloud infrastructure, virtualization, Linux systems, containers, storage, networking, security, schedulers, control planes, or management planes.
• Ability to design, build, test, and debug reliable software in a large, evolving codebase.
• Strong communication skills, collaboration skills, and an ownership-oriented mindset.

Designs, implements, and optimizes components in distributed systems with an emphasis on scalability, resiliency, and operability. Delivers features and load/performance tests; leverages data plane platforms and distributed state tools for high-volume retrieval, storage, and processing; and reviews peers’ implementations for scalability compliance. Builds fault-tolerant paths (redundancy, replication, automatic failover), applies recovery‑oriented principles, and implements retries, circuit breakers, and timeouts. Proactively detects and mitigates issues via tests, alarms, dashboards, and telemetry; authors runbooks and participates in incident response and RCAs. Implements standard replication and synchronization, develops automation/IaC for troubleshooting and maintenance, and applies advanced security controls (encryption, access, remediation) while ensuring change, compliance, and documentation standards are met.
