Qualifications

  • B.S. in Metallurgical, Materials Science or Mechanical Engineering.
  • Master's or Ph.D. in Metals-focused MS&E is preferred.
  • 3+ years of metals processing experience is a plus.
  • Working knowledge of cast-wrought processing is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and optimize hot working processes for Nickel, Titanium, and Specialty Steel products.
  • Develop metallurgical and operational expertise in processing these alloys.
  • Lead cross-functional programs to improve yield, cost, and cycle time.
  • Resolve non-conformances and reduce scrap.
  • Apply thermal/deformation modeling to improve products and processes.
  • Collaborate with Operations, Maintenance, and Quality to enhance safety and quality.
  • Lead or participate in continuous improvement activities and process audits.
  • Support customers with data analysis and technical guidance.
  • Assist Product Engineering and R&D in new product development and standardization.
  • Provide technical support during customer audits.

We're seeking a Senior Engineer in a pivotal role within our technology department. You'll be primarily responsible for leading and optimizing hot working processes for manufacturing Nickel, Titanium, and Specialty Steel products. The successful candidate will leverage their expertise in Metallurgical or Materials Science & Engineering to enhance process efficiency, product quality, and safety while supporting the development and standardization of new products and processes.

Other Responsibilities:
  • Technical lead for various post-melt processes including open die press forging, radial forging, and hot rolling of Nickel, Titanium, and Specialty Steel products.
  • Develop and maintain metallurgical and operational expertise in processing of Nickel, Titanium, and Specialty Steel alloys.
  • Lead and support cross-functional programs to improve process right the first time, yield, cost, and cycle time.
  • Resolve process-related non-conformances and reduce/eliminate scrap.
  • Apply thermal/deformation modeling to evaluate and improve products and processes.
  • Collaborate with Operations, Maintenance, and Quality personnel to improve manufacturing processes and standards that enhance safety, equipment performance, and product quality.
  • Lead or participate in team-based continuous improvement activities including risk assessments, 5-why problem solving, CEDAC or cause & effect, process mapping, process audits, and standard work.
  • Support internal/external customers by collecting and analyzing thermo-mechanical processing data.
  • Support Product Engineering and R&D in the development, evaluation, and standardization of new products and processes.
  • Provide technical support during customer audits.
Basic Qualifications (what we require)
  • B.S. in Metallurgical, Materials Science or Mechanical Engineering.
Preferences (what we prefer)
  • B.S., Masters Degree, or Ph.D. in Materials Science and Engineering with a metals focus.
  • Candidates with additional 3+ years work experience (helpful, but not required).
  • Working knowledge of cast-wrought processing (i.e., conventional primary melting, secondary remelting, press forging, radial forging, hot rolling, conditioning, heat treatment, etc.) preferred.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Strong technical background, technical writing, and oral presentation skills.
  • Focus on metals, processing, and structure/property relationships.
  • Eager to become a technical expert & primary point of contact in area of responsibility.
  • Comfortable being on the shop floor observing processes, providing guidance, and interfacing with operators.
  • Ability to communicate complex technical concepts and requirements to shop floor personnel in a clear, concise manner.
  • Self-starter and ability to work independently as well as on a team. Project planning skills.
  • Uses scientifically rigorous, data driven approach to problem solving.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks under pressure while maintaining composure and meeting established deadlines.
  • Open to continuing education opportunities (e.g., remelt modeling, statistical data analysis, technical conferences, etc).
  • Statistical data analysis experience using JMP, Mini-Tab, or related software.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Power Point).
