Job summary

Fisher Associates seeks a Senior Energy + Environment Project Manager in the Buffalo, NY area to lead complex projects across energy, environment, permitting, and regulatory compliance. You will guide multidisciplinary teams, develop client relationships, and drive practice growth in Western New York and beyond.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's and/or master's degree in Geology or Environmental/Civil Engineering with emphasis on Remediation/Environmental Engineering.
  • Minimum of 10 years of site investigation, project permitting, environmental compliance, and project management experience.
  • Strong technical and business development background.
  • Complete understanding of MS Office programs (Outlook, Word, Excel).
  • Ability to manage projects, time, tasks, deadlines, and communicate professionally.

Responsibilities

  • Lead new business development efforts and manage mid- to large-scale energy and environmental projects.
  • Oversee program-wide projects including setup, planning, safety, scope, schedule, staffing, and budgets.
  • Develop project strategies and design approaches meeting client objectives with regular client updates.
  • Manage project billing, updates, QA/QC, closeout, and compliance with project plans.
  • Prepare compliant proposals and serve as Proposal Manager and primary client contact.
  • Navigate complex public processes, municipal approvals, and environmental permitting.
  • Represent clients in agency meetings and manage subcontractors.

Senior Energy + Environment Project Manager - Buffalo, NY

Buffalo, NY is a strong Western New York market for energy, environmental, utility, and infrastructure professionals who understand complex permitting, environmental compliance, and project delivery. The region's industrial, transportation, utility, and renewable-energy activity creates opportunities for experienced professionals who can connect technical expertise with client and regulatory needs.

You’ll provide project, technical, and business-development leadership across Energy + Environment programs. The role combines project management, environmental compliance, permitting, regulatory coordination, proposal development, agency interaction, client management, and technical guidance across multidisciplinary teams.

For an experienced professional looking to have a broader influence on projects and practice growth, this role provides the opportunity to build client relationships, lead complex work, mentor teams, and help expand Fischer's Energy + Environment capabilities across Western New York and beyond.

What You'll Do
  • Lead new business development efforts and manage mid- to large-scale energy and environmental projects.
  • Oversee program-wide projects, including project setup, planning, safety analysis, kickoff, scope, schedule, staffing, and budgets.
  • Develop project strategies and design approaches that meet client objectives while maintaining regular communication with clients and managers.
  • Manage project billing, client updates, QA/QC, project closeout, and compliance with project plans.
  • Prepare compliant project proposals and serve as Proposal Manager and primary client contact throughout the proposal process.
  • Navigate complex public processes, municipal approvals, regulatory requirements, and environmental permitting.
  • Represent clients in agency meetings, manage subcontractors, negotiate regulatory conditions, and provide technical guidance to project teams and employees.
Requirements
What We're Looking For
  • Bachelor's and/or master's degree in Geology, Environmental/Civil Engineering with an emphasis on Remediation and Environmental Engineering, Geology, Planning Environmental Sciences, or another related field.
  • Minimum of 10 years of site investigation, project permitting, environmental compliance, and project management experience.
  • Strong technical and business development background.
  • Complete understanding of MS Office programs.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, including Outlook, Word, and Excel.
  • Ability to interpret and apply site investigation and remediation practices and environmental regulations.
  • Demonstrated ability to deliver high-quality work using critical thinking, problem-solving, and sound judgment.
  • Ability to manage projects, time, tasks, changing priorities, deliverables, and deadlines effectively.
  • Ability to communicate professionally and effectively in written and verbal formats.
  • Ability to build trusting relationships through collaboration, integrity, respect, and active listening.
  • Ability to take ownership of responsibilities and outcomes with integrity, honesty, and transparency.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Prior experience in oil and gas, electrical transmission, and renewable energy industries.
  • Multi-media environmental compliance audit experience across various markets and industries.
  • Knowledge of Deltek.
  • Knowledge of MicroStation.
  • Knowledge of AutoCAD.

Compensation + Benefits

Salary range: $120,000-$165,000 Annually

Fisher may also consider strong candidates located near Albany, NY; Rochester, NY; Syracuse, NY; Binghamton, NY; Ithaca, NY or Canonsburg, PA based on project needs, client alignment, team growth priorities, and business development opportunity.

This position is open to remote candidates; however, remote work arrangements are evaluated on a case-by-case basis and are dependent on the candidate’s experience level, demonstrated qualifications, and ability to perform the essential functions of the role independently.
