Morgan State University is seeking a Senior Endowment & Fund Accountant to oversee accounting for the Foundation's endowment and restricted funds, totaling about $220M across ~500 funds. You will manage unitization, investment allocations, payouts, and donor reporting, serving as the technical lead for endowment-related entries.

You will ensure UPMIFA compliance, coordinate with teams on fund data, and supervise endowment software integration with the general ledger.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree in Accounting or a related field is required.
• At least five years of progressive accounting experience is required.

Responsabilités

• Calculate and post the annual endowment payout under the spending policy; monitor UPMIFA compliance.
• Track restricted-fund balances, releases from restriction, and available balances; support fund-usage and donor-level reporting.
• Maintain fund data for endowed scholarship funds and provide balances/criteria to Financial Aid/EMASS.
• Reconcile investment and endowment activity to custodian statements; prepare investment schedules and footnotes for the audit.
• Operate and maintain endowment management software and its GL integration.
• Review endowed-gift setup and entries; collaborate with AR Manager and Advancement on setup.
• Serve as go-to technical resource on fund accounting; review complex fund transactions before escalation.

Job Summary

The Senior Endowment ; Fund Accountant is the team's senior technical accountant, owning the accounting for the Foundation's endowment and restricted funds - the ~$220M endowment across roughly 500 funds - including unitization, investment allocation, spending/payout, donor-restriction tracking, and donor-level reporting, and providing technical oversight and review of endowment-related entries touched by the Staff Accountant (the Foundation's first point of contact for transactional AP/AR).

Job Duties

• Set up endowment and restricted funds per executed donor agreements; define purpose codes and restriction terms.
• Maintain unitized/pooled-fund accounting; allocate investment income, gains/losses, and fees (including the administrative fee) to funds.
• Calculate and post the annual endowment payout under the spending policy; monitor UPMIFA compliance and underwater funds.
• Track restricted-fund balances, releases from restriction, and available balances; support fund-usage and donor-level reporting.
• Maintain fund data (donor criteria and available balances) for endowed scholarship funds and provide those balances and criteria to Financial Aid/EMASS, which owns the full scholarship application-to-disbursement process.
• Reconcile investment and endowment activity to custodian statements; prepare investment schedules and fair-value footnotes for the audit.
• Operate and maintain the endowment management software and its integration with the general ledger.
• Review endowed-gift setup and endowment-related entries recorded by the Staff Accountant, and partner with the AR Manager and Advancement on endowed-gift setup.
• Serve as the team's go-to technical resource on fund accounting and restriction questions; informally review complex fund transactions before they reach the Director.

Requested Minimum Qualifications

Education: A Bachelor's Degree in Accounting or a related field from accredited college or university is required.

Experience: At least five years of progressive accounting experience is required.

Other Preferences for Consideration

• Experience in fund, endowment, or investment accounting is a plus.
• Seven plus years of experience.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

• Strong reconciliation and analytical skills; comfort with complex, restricted-fund detail.
• Understanding of restricted (donor) fund accounting; ability to learn UPMIFA and unitization concepts quickly.
• Nonprofit/higher-education foundation experience with endowments and restricted funds preferred.
• Experience with endowment software (Fundriver, Adavico, or NPact FIT) and Financial Edge NXT preferred.
