Senior Endoscopy Technologist

The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center is a leading institution focused on cancer care, research, education, and prevention. The Senior Endoscopy Technician contributes directly to patient care by supporting advanced endoscopic interventions, maintaining critical equipment, and ensuring compliance with infection prevention and quality standards. The Senior Endoscopy Technician serves as a technical resource within the Endoscopy Center, and the Senior Endoscopy Technician plays an essential role in delivering safe and effective patient care.

The ideal candidate will have three years of endoscopy experience and possess an Advanced GI Technical Specialist (AGTS) certification from the Society of Gastroenterology Nurses and Associates (SGNA) and Basic Life Support (BLS) or Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certification from the American Heart Association (AHA). The successful candidate will demonstrate expertise in advanced endoscopy procedures, scope reprocessing, infection prevention practices, quality assurance activities, equipment management, inventory control, and regulatory compliance while supporting a high-volume, patient-focused Endoscopy Center environment.

Salary Range (Hourly Equivalent): Minimum $27.64 - Midpoint $34.62 - Maximum $41.59

The typical work schedule is Monday-Friday, 7:00 AM-5:30 PM, with rotating 8:00 AM-6:30 PM shifts, 10-hour shifts, an off day TBD, and on-call required.

Responsibilities
Scope Reprocessing, Infection Control & Quality Assurance
  • Adhere to hospital, Joint Commission, and SGNA guidelines for quality control and safety of procedures.
  • Participate in the education of self and others regarding job duties and process improvement efforts.
  • Observe all policies and procedures to assure the quality and safety of the endoscopy environment for patients, families, and staff.
  • Participate in continuous monitoring and quality improvement efforts.
  • Ensure dictated reports contain necessary information for submission through the electronic portal or health record.
  • Perform routine equipment maintenance.
  • Maintain inventory of supplies to support endoscopy patient care.
  • Follow hospital laboratory protocol for collecting, labeling, and recording tissue specimens during all procedures.
  • Complete annual competency training on scope reprocessing.
  • Maintain required certifications.
Endoscopy Procedure Support
  • Assist competently and safely with esophagoscopy procedures.
  • Assist competently and safely with esophagogastroduodenoscopy (EGD) procedures.
  • Assist competently and safely with flexible sigmoidoscopy procedures.
  • Assist competently and safely with colonoscopy procedures.
  • Assist competently and safely with small bowel enteroscopy procedures.
  • Assist competently and safely with percutaneous endoscopic gastrostomy (PEG) tube placements and replacements.
  • Assist competently and safely with endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography (ERCP) under direct fluoroscopic visualization.
  • Assist competently and safely with endoscopic ultrasonography (EUS) and fine needle aspiration under direct visualization.
  • Assist competently and safely with cryoablation procedures.
  • Assist competently and safely with BarrX Therapy procedures.
Advanced Endoscopy Procedures
  • Assist competently and safely with Endoscopic Mucosal Resection (EMR) procedures.
  • Assist competently and safely with Endoscopic Submucosal Dissection (ESD) procedures.
  • Assist competently and safely with CellVizio procedures.
  • Assist competently and safely with argon plasma coagulation procedures.
  • Assist competently and safely with dilation/dilatation procedures.
  • Assist competently and safely with single and double balloon techniques.
  • Assist competently and safely with stenting procedures.
  • Support travel cases using a mobile cart.
Equipment Maintenance & Inventory Management
  • Perform routine equipment assessments to determine functionality of CellVizio equipment.
  • Perform routine equipment assessments to determine functionality of cryoablation equipment.
  • Perform routine equipment assessments to determine functionality of APC equipment.
  • Perform routine equipment assessments to determine functionality of ultrasound equipment, stretchers, CO₂ systems, flushing pumps, and mobile carts.
  • Schedule preventive maintenance checks on equipment.
  • Prepare and send scopes out for repair.
  • Maintain records for equipment repairs.
  • Assist with equipment inventory.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
EDUCATION
  • Required: High School Diploma or Equivalent
WORK EXPERIENCE
  • Required: 3 years Endoscopy experience.
LICENSES AND CERTIFICATIONS
  • Required: BLS - Basic Life Support Upon Hire or
  • Required: CPR - Cardiac Pulmonary Resuscitation Upon Hire
  • Required: Advanced GI Technical Specialist (AGTS) certification from the Society of Gastroenterology Nurses and Associates (SGNA)
  • Preferred: GI Technical Specialist certification by the Society of Gastroenterology Nurses and Associates (SGNA). Upon Hire
