Job summary

Oshkosh Corporation, Inc. is seeking a Senior Emissions Certification Engineer to lead emissions certification and compliance for internal combustion and battery electric vehicles.

You will manage OBD-II approval, in-use tests, and annual re-certification according to US EPA and California ARB standards. You will interact with regulators, coordinate with internal teams and external contractors, and develop corrective actions when timelines or budgets shift.

Qualifications

  • BS degree in mechanical/environmental engineering or related field.
  • 2+ years of experience in powertrain development, emissions testing, certification, or on-board diagnostics.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Project.
  • Experience interacting with regulators in the transportation sector is a plus.
  • Ability to identify and influence future regulatory requirements and compliance strategies.

Responsibilities

  • Interact with US EPA and California ARB staff on requirements, changes, interpretations, and contract conditions.
  • Lead emissions certification and compliance activities for ICE and battery EV vehicles; manage OBD-II approval and in-use tests.
  • Coordinate data collection/analysis for regulations and vehicle sales data; track program data quality and field failures.
  • Develop corrective action plans when budgets/schedules deviate; present program status to executives and customers.
  • Identify regulatory changes and industry trends; advise on risk mitigation across the program life cycle.
  • Coordinate project activities with external contractors and internal engineers; foster communication and resolve conflicts.

This role is responsible for emissions certification, OBD-II approval, in-use test management, warranty reporting, and on-going emission re-certification according to US EPA and California ARB standards.YOUR IMPACT:Interact and coordinate with US EPA and California ARB staff on issues pertaining to requirements, changes, interpretations, and financial conditions of the contract.Responsible for program growth by ensuring continuous improvement of OBD systems.Provide secondary support as needed for:Heavy-duty on-highway battery electric and internal combustion vehicle certificationData collection and analysis for restricted chemical regulations applicable to Oshkosh productsData collection and tracking for vehicle sales data, and regulatory compliance programs related to Zero-Emission vehicle salesAccountable for all schedules, data quality, and field failure reporting for the program.Develop and implement corrective action plans when deviations from budgets and/or schedules are evident.Develop, prepare, and present briefings to both executive management and the customer related to program status, direction, and performance.Participate in identification and mitigation efforts related to risk throughout program life cycle.Coordinate project activities of external contractors and internal engineering staff according to a detailed project time plan.Assure communication and cooperation among team members and resolve areas of conflict.Ability to identify, influence/shape future requirements and compliance strategies.Actively identify changes in regulatory requirements and industry trends relevant to the program.Other duties as assigned.MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:Bachelor’s degree in mechanical or environmental engineering, or related field of study2+ years of related experience in powertrain development, emissions testing, certification, or on-board diagnosticsWorking knowledge of Microsoft ProjectPrevious working experience with regulators in the transportation sectorIndependent judgment and decision-making abilitySTANDOUT QUALIFICATIONS:Master’s Degree in Environmental Compliance, Engineering, or related fieldStrong verbal presentation and written communication skillsPossess broad technical, administrative and management skills to oversee product line development, production, operational support, and system upgradesCORE COMPETENCIES:Internal Contacts: Contact with peers and others involving explanation of information (these contacts may be within or outside department or division), and the gathering of factual information; may include the communication of sensitive or confidential information.External Contacts: Limited external contact to: gather information, answer queries, or ask assistance.Communication Skills: Read, write and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence and memos; Read and interpret safety rules, operating/maintenance instructions and procedure manuals; Write routine reports, correspondence and speak effectively before both internal and external groups; Read, analyze and interpret business manuals, technical procedures and/or government regulations: Read, analyze and interpret scientific and technical journals, financial reports and legal documents.Decision-Making: Regularly makes decisions of responsibility, involving evaluation of information.
