Job summary

Vast is seeking a Senior EMI‑EMC Engineer in Long Beach, California to develop systems for human-rated space stations. You will work on EMI-EMC requirements for spacecraft and guide best practices.

Job description

Vast is looking for a Senior EMI‑EMC Engineer to support the development of systems required for the design and build of artificial‑gravity human‑rated space stations. This full‑time, exempt position is located in Long Beach, California.

Responsibilities
  • Develop EMI‑EMC requirements for Vast spacecraft and components.
  • Derive and distribute EMI and in‑space environmental requirements.
  • Implement tailored industry standards for Vast spacecraft and avionics.
  • Work directly with cross‑functional teams to guide best practices for EMI‑EMC design and test.
  • Perform analysis and measurement on avionics sub‑circuits, components, and systems to enhance understanding of EMI‑EMC performance and risk, and generate launch‑provider deliverables.
  • Support EMI‑EMC qualification testing of Vast spacecraft and components.
  • Contribute to a culture of extreme ownership by understanding and articulating how EMI relates to all subsystems and disciplines in human‑rated spacecraft.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering, physics, or a related STEM discipline.
  • At least 2 years of experience working in an EMI/EMC/physics‑related role.
Preferred Skills & Experience
  • Master’s degree in electrical engineering, physics, or a related STEM discipline.
  • Experience in EMI/EMC, space charging for spacecraft, triboelectrification, grounding, and bonding.
  • Prior experience in an electronics or electrical systems design role.
  • Experience with software development in Matlab, Python, or similar.
  • Experience with digital communications standards such as Ethernet, RS‑422, PCIe, GMII, etc.
  • Experience with MIL‑STD‑461 compliance testing (procedures, facilities, equipment, etc.).
  • Experience developing software for electronic test equipment automation.
  • Background in electromagnetics, ionizing radiation, and plasma effects on spacecraft systems.
  • Strong sense of accountability and integrity with excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to effectively communicate with cross‑disciplinary teams.
Pay Range
  • EMI‑EMC Engineer II: $120,540–$171,108
  • Senior EMI‑EMC Engineer: $147,600–$209,520
  • Staff EMI‑EMC Engineer: $177,120–$251,424

Base salary varies based on knowledge, education, skills, experience, business needs, and market demand.
