Job summary

Serve Robotics is seeking a software engineer to design, develop, test, and maintain robotics middleware and application frameworks using modern C++ on embedded Linux. You will own platform components from design through deployment across Serve's robot fleet.

You will collaborate with Autonomy, Systems Engineering, and hardware teams to improve performance, reliability, and developer experience, while providing guidance and mentorship to team members.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in CS, Robotics, CE, EE, or equivalent.
• 5+ years of professional software engineering experience with modern C++.
• Experience in embedded Linux systems software.
• Strong multithreaded programming and IPC knowledge.
• Experience with latency-sensitive, real-time, or high-reliability systems.
• Experience owning complex components through full lifecycle.
• Strong communication and cross-team collaboration.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, test, and maintain robotics middleware and application frameworks using modern C++ on embedded Linux.
• Own significant platform components from technical design through validation, deployment, and operation.
• Partner with software teams to identify reliability, performance, and developer-experience problems and deliver reusable solutions.
• Collaborate with Autonomy and Systems Engineering on risk assessments and software architecture.
• Translate system-level safety requirements into software behavior and verification strategies.
• Develop instrumentation, benchmarks, logging, tracing, and fleet-level metrics to measure performance and health.
• Diagnose and resolve complex system-level issues involving concurrency and interprocess communication.
• Evaluate tradeoffs and contribute to architectural decisions for scalability and maintainability.
• Lead design and code reviews and contribute to development standards and documentation.
• Provide technical guidance and mentorship to other engineers.
