Job summary

Highbrow LLC is seeking a Senior Embedded Firmware Engineer in Dallas, TX to join the hardware-focused team. The role emphasizes developing PMBus/I2C-based control and telemetry, and working closely with power electronics and mission-critical systems engineering.

The candidate will own firmware from design through verification, implement automated unit tests, and ensure compliance with MISRA C:2023 standards. On-site presence is required for collaboration and testing.

Qualifications

• 7+ years of embedded firmware development experience.
• 3+ years of hands-on bare-metal C development.
• Experience with MISRA C and static-analysis tools.
• Experience with PMBus/SMBus and power-management firmware.
• Experience with firmware for mission-critical or safety-critical systems.
• Experience with debugging firmware on target hardware.

Responsibilities

• Develop and maintain PMBus/I2C-based command, control, configuration, and telemetry functionality.
• Work with MCU peripherals (GPIO, ADCs, timers, interrupts, etc.) on power-conversion hardware.
• Analyze firmware interaction with power-conversion hardware and sensors/interfaces.
• Support bring-up, debugging, characterization, and verification on PSC hardware.
• Develop automated unit tests, test harnesses, mocks, and stubs for firmware modules.
• Follow Test-Driven Development (TDD) practices for new functionality and firmware changes.
• Perform regression testing after firmware changes and defect fixes.
• Perform static analysis and resolve findings to MISRA C:2023 as applicable.
• Support hardware-in-the-loop and system-level testing.
• Analyze fault conditions and support fault-injection testing where applicable.
• Participate in requirements analysis, architecture reviews, and customer discussions.
• Contribute to firmware documentation and verification evidence.
• Maintain source code, unit tests, build artifacts under Git.

Job Description:

Mandatory Qualifications:

• 7+ years of embedded firmware development experience.
• 3+ years of hands-on bare-metal C development.
• Significant experience with bare-metal MCU firmware development.
• Experience with power supply, power-management, or power-conversion firmware.
• Experience with PMBus and/or SMBus.
• Experience developing firmware for mission-critical or safety-critical systems.
• Experience with MISRA C and static-analysis tools.
• Experience developing automated unit-test frameworks for embedded firmware.
• Experience debugging firmware on actual target hardware.
• Experience with aerospace, defense, avionics, or space electronics is highly desirable.
• Strong proficiency in C programming for embedded systems.
• Experience with laboratory power supplies, electronic loads, power analyzers, and other power-electronics characterization equipment is a strong plus.

Job Responsibilities:

• Develop and maintain PMBus/I²C-based command, control, configuration, and telemetry functionality.
• Work with GPIO, ADCs, timers, interrupts, communication peripherals, watchdogs, non-volatile memory and other MCU peripherals as applicable to the hardware.
• Analyze firmware interaction with the power-conversion hardware and associated sensors/control interfaces.
• Support bring-up, debugging, characterization, and verification of firmware on physical PSC hardware.
• Develop automated unit tests, test harnesses, mocks and stubs for firmware modules.
• Follow Test-Driven Development (TDD) practices for new functionality and firmware modifications.
• Perform regression testing following firmware changes and defect fixes.
• Perform static analysis and resolve or disposition findings.
• Ensure firmware conforms to JPL C coding standards and MISRA C:2023 requirements, as applicable.
• Support hardware-in-the-loop and system-level testing.
• Analyze fault conditions and support fault-injection testing where applicable.
• Participate in requirements analysis, firmware architecture, design reviews, defect triage, and technical discussions with the customer engineering team.
• Contribute to firmware documentation including design descriptions, requirements, interface documentation, test procedures, and verification evidence.
• Maintain source code, unit tests, build artifacts, and configuration under Git-based version control.
• Support regular firmware builds and milestone releases.
