Job summary

TalentDome Staffing is seeking a Senior Embedded Systems Engineer to join a small, cross-functional team in Dallas to design, build, and maintain the C++ software and Linux systems powering our hardware fleet nationwide.

The role requires 6+ years in embedded software, strong C++ on Linux, and hands-on experience with RS485/Modbus/I²C, MQTT and TLS/mTLS. On-site work, with opportunities to impact nationwide outdoor safety hardware platforms.

Qualifications

• 6+ years of hands-on software/embedded engineering experience.
• Strong C++ development on Linux targets.
• Deep experience with Linux as a development/deployment target.
• Hands-on experience with serial/industrial protocols (RS485, Modbus, I²C) and cellular connectivity.
• Proficiency in Python for test automation and tooling.
• Proven debugging using telemetry, logs, and bench tools.
• 100% on-site work at Dallas headquarters

Responsibilities

• Core C++ Development: Design, build, and maintain C++ application software running on device targets—handling sensor integration, audio/alerting controls, and cellular connectivity.
• System Stability & Observability: Continually improve fleet reliability, remote observability, telemetry, and debugging mechanisms for thousands of deployed outdoor units.
• Protocol & Sensor Integration: Work directly with serial and industrial protocols (RS485, Modbus, I²C) to integrate external sensors and hardware peripherals.
• Connectivity & Updates: Maintain robust device-to-cloud communications over cellular (LTE, MQTT, TLS/mTLS) and secure remote Over-The-Air (OTA) update systems.
• Embedded Linux Management: Maintain and extend an embedded Linux platform (Debian on ARM), configuring systemd services, udev rules, device trees, and kernel/BSP components.
• Hardware & Bench Collaboration: Partner with hardware engineers on board bring-up, schematic reviews, and bench testing using logic analyzers, oscilloscopes, and multimeters.
• Automation: Build automated testing frameworks and tooling for embedded targets, including hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) environments.
