KOSTAL of America, Inc. is seeking a detail-oriented electronics technician to support the design, assembly, testing and repair of electronic products and prototypes.

This role relies on strong soldering and fault-finding skills and requires collaboration with engineers, interns and team members. The ideal candidate will handle multiple projects, maintain lab organization, and participate in improvements to designs and processes; prior experience with SAP or similar inventory systems is

Qualifications

  • Demonstrated experience soldering/desoldering through-hole, SMT, wire harness, and microprocessor components.
  • Strong experience troubleshooting, repairing, and testing electronic and electromechanical devices.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong organizational and communication skills with emphasis on lab cleanliness.
  • Professional communication skills (verbal, written, phone, email).
  • Define and enforce lab procedures and basic work order details to proceed with jobs.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Ability to train junior technicians in soldering/desoldering techniques.
  • Proficiency with computer-based systems; familiarity with AutoCAD is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Perform advanced soldering and desoldering on through-hole, SMT, wire harness, and microprocessor components.
  • Troubleshoot embedded electronic systems and diagnose issues efficiently.
  • Support and coordinate the work of interns while managing multiple assignments.
  • Design, assemble, and test electrical components for customer products and prototypes per instructions.
  • Assist engineers with development and implementation of new designs.
  • Source parts, maintain inventory for test fixtures and repairs.
  • Test electronic units and analyze results to guide adjustments or repairs.
  • Maintain a clean, safe lab environment.
  • Perform additional shop and technical support duties as assigned.

Job Description
Position Summary

We are seeking a detail-oriented and technically skilled electronics professional to support the design, assembly, testing, troubleshooting, and repair of electronic products, prototypes, and test systems. This role requires strong soldering and electronics repair experience, the ability to support multiple projects simultaneously, and effective collaboration with engineers, interns, and other team members.

Key Responsibilities – includes but is not limited to, the following:
  • Perform advanced soldering and desoldering on through-hole, SMT, wire harness, and microprocessor components (including microprocessor replacement).
  • Troubleshoot embedded electronic systems and diagnose technical issues efficiently.
  • Support and help coordinate the work of interns while managing multiple assignments and priorities.
  • Design, assemble, and test electrical components for customer products, prototypes, and test systems in accordance with engineering instructions, technical manuals, and established electronics practices.
  • Assist engineers with the development and implementation of new designs.
  • Research, source, and order parts as needed, and maintain inventory for test fixtures, repairs, and related materials.
  • Test electronic units, including prototypes and customer products, using standard test equipment; analyze results to evaluate performance and determine the need for adjustments or repairs.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe lab work environment.
  • Perform additional shop and technical support duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • Demonstrated experience in soldering and desoldering through-hole, SMT, wire harness, and microprocessor components.
  • Strong experience troubleshooting, repairing, and testing electronic and electromechanical devices.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and work effectively in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong organizational and communication skills with consistent attention to cleanliness and order in the lab.
  • Professional communication skills, including verbal, written, phone, and email communication.
  • Define and enforce lab working procedures – managing request flows, escalations, enforcing basic minimum work order details to proceed with jobs.
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively as part of a team.
  • Ability to train junior technicians in soldering/desoldering techniques.
  • Proficiency with computer-based systems and software, including Microsoft Office; familiarity with AutoCAD is a plus.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Associate degree in Electronics Technology or equivalent hands-on experience.
  • Experience in the Tier 1 automotive industry.
  • Experience with SAP or similar inventory/data management systems.
  • Military 2M certification or equivalent civilian soldering certification.
