Job summary

Harvard University’s SEAS Electronics Shop Manager leads the design, fabrication, and support of custom electronic instrumentation for research and teaching. You will collaborate with faculty, researchers, and students to deliver integrated instruments and reliable systems.

The role involves mentoring users, managing shop operations, and ensuring safety, quality, and compliance while advancing advanced electronics capabilities in a fast-paced academic setting.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or closely related field.
• Minimum of eight years of relevant experience in an electronics laboratory, instrumentation development environment, research engineering setting, or similar technical role.
• Demonstrated experience with designing, building, testing, and troubleshooting custom electronic instrumentation.

Responsibilities

• Provide advanced engineering consultation and hands-on technical support to researchers.
• Translate requirements into prototypes and integrated instruments.
• Advise researchers on instrumentation design, grounding, shielding, and noise reduction.
• Support SEAS and Physics applications across departments.
• Design, fabricate, test, troubleshoot custom electronic systems.
• Program microcontrollers, embedded systems, and FPGA platforms.
• Integrate sensors and data acquisition into laboratory platforms.
• Maintain safety and best practices in the shop.
