Job summary

Eaton’s ES AMER PCS division is seeking a Senior Electronics Engineer for a hybrid role based in Moon Township, PA. The role leads verification and validation activities for embedded systems and circuit breaker products, with emphasis on testing automation and global team leadership.

Candidates should have a BS in Electrical or Computer Engineering, 2+ years in electronics, and experience in testing across the product life cycle, plus familiarity with industry standards and protocols.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the technical and project lead for verification and validation of new product development projects and product line support activities.

  • Verify compliance with applicable safety, regulatory, and industry standards, including UL, IEC, CSA, ANSI, and Eaton engineering processes.
  • Maintain complete verification documentation, including test plans, procedures, execution records, defect reports, traceability matrices, and validation reports.
  • Participate in design reviews, risk assessments, DFMEA activities, and technical reviews throughout the product development lifecycle.
  • Provide technical leadership, mentoring, and guidance to junior V&V engineers and cross-functional engineering teams.
  • Drive continuous improvement of verification methodologies, test automation, laboratory capabilities, and engineering best practices.
  • Support field issue investigations, customer problem resolution, and corrective/preventive action activities.
  • Collaborate with firmware, hardware, systems engineering, manufacturing, quality, product management, and program management teams throughout the product development lifecycle.

Eaton’s ES AMER PCS division is currently seeking a Senior Electronics Engineer. This hybrid position that is based out of our Moon Township, PA Eaton location and offers benefits from day one.

The expected annual salary range for this role is $86000 - $126000 a year.

What you’ll do:

The Senior Electronics Engineer will be part of Embedded Systems group and lead verification and validation activities for Eaton’s circuit breaker and protection systems. This position’s primary function will be to:

  1. Serve as the technical and project lead for verification and validation of new product development projects and product line support activities.

  2. Design and drive the testing automation framework.

  3. Lead and provide training for the global V&V teams.

  4. Participate and facilitate process improvement and changes.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Develop verification and validation (V&V) strategies, plans, and procedures for embedded firmware, hardware, and system-level testing.

  • Analyze product requirements, functional specifications, and applicable industry standards to derive verification requirements and ensure complete traceability.

  • Design, develop, automate, and maintain verification test cases, test scripts, and test frameworks for embedded protection systems.

  • Execute functional, integration, system, regression, performance, and release testing for electronic trip units and associated circuit breaker products.

  • Validate communication interfaces and interoperability, including industrial communication protocols and configuration software.

  • Develop and maintain automated test systems and laboratory equipment to improve testing efficiency, repeatability, and coverage.

  • Investigate, reproduce, troubleshoot, and perform root cause analysis of hardware, firmware, and system-level defects.

  • Review system requirements, software requirements, architecture, and design documentation to ensure testability and verification completeness.

  • Verify compliance with applicable safety, regulatory, and industry standards, including UL, IEC, CSA, ANSI, and Eaton engineering processes.

  • Maintain complete verification documentation, including test plans, procedures, execution records, defect reports, traceability matrices, and validation reports.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Strong knowledge of electronics devices, specifically in trip units, meters, and protective relays.

  • Strong knowledge of communication protocol such as IEC61850/GOOSE, TCP/IP, Modbus TCP, Modbus RTU, and CAN.

  • Experiences on embedded firmware and hardware testing.

  • Experiences on developing automation scripts and validating electrical products, specifically with Python and Labview.

  • Experience on testing in large, complex electrical system environments.

  • Experience of working with global engineering teams.

Position Criteria:

  • Good written and oral communications skills and be proficient in preparation of formal test procedures and reports. Ability to foster collaboration across global enginering teams.

  • Willingness to travel 10%.
