Job summary

Ford Motor Company in Dearborn, MI is seeking an electrical engineer to join the advanced electronic modules team. You will design circuits, schemas, and PCB layouts for next-generation vehicles, performing power and signal integrity analyses and collaborating across multiple engineering teams.

The role requires 5+ years in electronics, strong CAD and circuit analysis skills, and experience with automotive networks (CAN, LIN, Automotive Ethernet).

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering, Computer Engineering, or related field of study.
  • 5+ years of experience in electronics circuits design, modeling and analysis, preferably in a high reliability industry (automotive, aero-space, medical, etc.).
  • 5+ years of experience experience in Electronic Circuit disciplines and processes
  • 5+ years of experience CAD tools (e.g. Mentor Graphics, Cadence Design Systems, etc.)
  • 5+ years of experience with circuit analysis software tools, e.g. Mathcad, and simulation tools: Spice, Saber, etc.
  • 3+ years of experience with vehicle communication protocols CAN, LIN, Automotive Ethernet.

Responsibilities

  • Design products utilizing engineering principles. Apply best practices, lessons learned and innovative design techniques to achieve a reliable product at a competitive cost.
  • Design circuits schematic and PCB layout implementation using industry standard tools.
  • Strive to simplify the design, make it easy to manufacture, mistake proof, attempt to anticipate areas of large variation and attempt to maximize design robustness.
  • Perform tolerance stack up/worst case circuit analyses (Extreme Value, RMS or Monte Carlo as required).
  • Capture and codify WCCA lessons learned.
  • Perform power integrity (PDN, IRdrop) and signal integrity analysis as required.
  • Generate professional reports and make changes as necessary based on findings.
  • Confer with other engineering team and cross functional team members on a frequent basis to ensure all aspects of the design are coming together seamlessly.
  • Participate in technical design reviews to ensure compliance to design requirements.
  • Generate, check and approve necessary engineering documentation required for material procurement and quality assurance of products designed (drawings - assembly and component, schematics, Bill(s) of Materials, specifications etc.).
  • Participate in the building and construction of assemblies in early prototype stages.
  • Define stress test routines required to validate functional sections.
  • Document failure modes and feedback to improve design requirements.
  • Lead the resolution of functional abnormalities observed in module designs.
  • Ensure Ford and industry lessons learned are documented in the associated quality history.
